Meet me in the Land of Hope and Dreams -DAY 11 - Magic Kingdom at last!
Welcome back Thanks for reading so far.
Today saw our first morning visit to Magic kingdom - our usual first and last place but a little neglected thus far in this trip. We had the usual amazing time - enjoy reading *** warning*** photo overload! Day 10 happened previously click here The whole trip report is listed here For anyone interested in more of our travels the 2013 trip report is here DAY 11 - Friday 8th August 2014 Another late night saw for a rather unwelcome alarm- breakfast in MK beckoned and we were determined to make it for opening. Turning over and having an extended snooze was the preferred option for the boys! Well we did it! An opportunity for an early morning photo too. We had a breakfast booked for Crystal Palace for some great food and character interactions. Now please forgive the following , I do enjoy Crystal palace , and the characters there but I had a huge grump about being there Now you get up early, you watch the fab opening and then you go for food Wrong - so wrong. We should have been on every ride that had a minimal queue, Space Mountain in particular was quiet ( according to my repeated checking of the wait time in real time via the free wifi) I did try to be discreet but my annoyance at being in Magic Kingdom and not on any rides was probably an annoyance to everyone in the family who wanted to see Pooh, Tigger , Eyore and Tigger. I didn't- I wanted to have used the first couple of hours to do Space, Splash and Big Thunder Mountains - it would have been possible ( maybe) Anyway as we exited we headed for our very first FastPass of the day- Space/ BTM/ Splash? NO We had a date with Anna and Elsa- having laid on such an expansive firework show, we even gave them a specific time to come and see us today! Despite us giving them 60 days notice they still made us wait - sure that must be a royal thing! Was not too long though and with planning to do this only once was a memorable one. They were great - it added so much to the rest of the trip as both boys were spellbound/ secretly fancied them! I do look forward to their response to this thread in years to come We did have a good period of time with them, no feeling of being rushed through and CM's who made the most of three boys coming to see them. We exited with a short window of opportunity before our next Fp so we got a trip to Haunted Mansion in - a long standing favourite and a ride that seems to have a longer queue time now they have FP+ attached. Always well worth queuing for, as the detail in the Imagineering is amazing and having a FP now no longer allows you access to this - well worth the wait and if you get to experience som eof the CM's who really do make HM special all the better - move along please to the Dead centre of the room - there's no turning back now! and so it proved for us! We even had a memory maker photographer greet us on exit which was an unusual place to see a photographer so we obliged with a photo that told of our next destination! A FP with Belle! We did so with a quick stop at It's a Small World on the way ( or a detour on the way, to eek out the timings on FP ) Not sure about you but I felt a little short changed here - EVERY Anna and Elsa we saw were very very close - either that or two people were due a whole lot of overtime for this summer! I guess they had not been so selection proof on the Belle's of this world Great show but I have met more convincing Belle's This guy was good though! We headed to Tomorrowland - and the People mover just to get a construction site photo It's the future they are building! and where I found a friend! A Carousel of Progress stop off- a family MUST, and the first of this trip and then finally our FP window for Space Mountain opened - the time was just 12.40! At this point in the day - we were ready for more so we headed to the FP 'recharging' zone! Our first experience of this and wow! It glitched! So instead of the next FP we ended up being able to book 3 more Someone had been watching me eat my breakfast this morning and knew I had suffered! Result! The rides by this time were limited but it did add a spring to the step so we went for a Dole whip celebration. As we crossed the hub we caught the end of the stage show- Dream along with Mickey. We stopped, sang, enjoyed and simply took a breath! Joe got a wave from his hero and so to ice creams As we crossed the hub once again - we met a snowman! and then stopped off at the laughter floor and finally to Buzz Thankfully the space ranger to my left did not repeat his 999,999 experience from our last trip - I also got no closer to finding out how he did it - and neither does he! We had time to ready ourselves for the parade and found a spot in the hub that we thought would be perfect - 20 mins later we were willing the parade towards us - we could feel the heat from the floor through our trainers and became so aware of being in complete sun ( probably more so than ever before in Florida - the late nights and early starts were perhaps kicking in) We had never seen the Festival of Fantasy parade before, it seemed to have a nod towards some elements of the long forgotten Epcot daytime parade - and it also seemed rather big! Judgement would be reserved at this moment - I grew to like the previous parade after many viewings and I felt it fair to do the same again. It was a good start in my eyes and ears for a parade that had some wonderful floats. As the parade passed us by we ducked into Cosmic Rays - not for food but just to cool down - we were hot hot hot! Speedway was our next stop - "honest officer - I had my eyes on the road! " I was ably driven by Josh who still has it as one of his goals in life to not inflict whiplash on his passengers - oh how I look forward to him getting to 17 We did get to see the People mover being evacuated - We were at wilting point - too late a night last night, too early rising this morning - we thought about an exit but the final FP was burning a hole in my magic band! We did the Jungle Cruise With a boat driver who at least had a better commentary than Josh's speedway one - although essentially they were both doing the same thing I was not going to tell her though as she was more hilariously funny than others on this ride than I have ever heard - she had a sense of mischief in her commentary! It is only looking back and typing all of what we achieved today do you realise that with 6 Fp's used and so much more too - we had really DONE MK! We needed it, we wanted it and we did it - after a year away this seemed like a time to reunite with our favourite place - I think we did more than that. We made an exit that saw us get off the bus at Saratoga Springs at just 5.10! Amazed at what we had managed to do in the park we chilled , we swam and we found floodlight swimming an exciting end to the day. A counter service tea at the 'Haddock' pool (as Joe calls it!) with lots of time to just enjoy the pool time. And we headed for a well earned sleep That was some day ! Anyone for Extra Magic Hours in the morning? DAY 12 is here

I totally understand the eating instead of riding frustration. We usually book an 8am breakfast and EVERY time my OH is still faffing about (finishing his drink, going to the toilet, having a rest...) when park open hits. You can see all the crowds streaming in through the window and my heart just sinks. The is no point dragging yourself out of bed so early if you're not going to make the most of it!

Can't believe we did all that in one day! Enjoyed reliving MK - although I was the unlucky sole who had to be driven by Joe on Indi cars, whiplash extraordinaire
