Mr and Mrs T's West Coast Tour - Day 15
As this was our only full day in Monterey we were going to have a nice gentle stroll round the area taking in the sights and shops.
Actually had a decent nights sleep bearing in mind the room was by a busy road. Room came with a kettle so we made a cup of coffee. Got ready and first order of the day was a call to granddaughter Caitlin back home in Ipswich. Got through and it was really lovely to hear her voice. We had been away for 2 weeks and really did miss our 3 grandchildren. Said our goodbyes and said we would see her on our return Saturday. Left the hotel and off we went on our travels. It was a bit chilly! So glad we had got tops with us. Wanted breakfast as we had missed the one laid on by the hotel. Found a small place called Lily Maes on Cannery Row. We both ordered burritos and a coffee. They were delicious and I had never had one before! Walked down to the back of the hotel next to the café and sat and watched the birds skimming the water. Very peaceful. We thought about visiting the aquarium so strolled along to where it was. $80 for both us seemed a bit steep so we decided to look for something else. There was a motorized cable car at a stop which had stops at Fishermans Wharf and downtown so we thought a visit to Fishermans Wharf might be nice – and the cable car was FREE! We were surprised with what we saw when we got off. A really bustling area with a mix of fish restaurants and shops plus a couple of boats offering whale watching. Had a really nice walk round, in and out of the shops and generally watching everything that was going on. It was now turning into a really lovely, warm day. Left the wharf and walked to the downtown area. Very clean looking with quite a bit of building work going on. Good selection of shops as well. Once we had done what we wanted to do we got the cable car back to the aquarium stop and went in search of ice cream. What we did find was a shop selling a large assortment of frozen yoghurt flavours. Sat inside eating and it was very good! Returned to the hotel to do some serious packing. Had to be done right this time as we were heading home tomorrow so I needed everything to be packed properly. Hunger pains eventually got the better of us and off we set to find tea. Walked down to the Cannery Row Brewery Company but did not like the look of it so walked down to Cannery Row where we knew there was a good choice. Finally chose a restaurant called Sly McFly with views over the water. Again the food was very good and the drinks were not bad either. Needed to walk off the food and drink and to take our last look at Cannery Row so decided to walk past the aquarium and up to Ocean View Drive. Turned the corner just past the aquarium and onto the drive and in front of us was a beach with about 3 dozen harbour seals on. What an unexpected find. The whole area that you walk along is fenced off so as not to disturb them. Walked on a bit further to where there were some benches and we decided to sit and just take in the wonderful views. Elaine then spotted something in the water just a way off the shore. Looking through the cameras we could see they were sea otters who obviously had caught their tea and were on their backs eating it. Would have liked to walk on further but we were both in need of a toilet stop so power walked back to Cannery Row. Picked up a couple of cookies while Elaine chose chocolate. Just a little something to nibble in bed later. Finished off the packing, just leaving a bit of space for the toiletries that we need in the morning.

Great day again. I love Pinkberry, I always try and find one when we are in the US.
