We'd Better Visit the Mouse! Day 12 - 3rd Oct 2015 - SeaWorld Spooktacular

Today's Vlog:

Time for our second trip to SeaWorld. I felt a bit sorry for Gemma, she's such a huge SeaWorld fan but it had been given a back seat on this trip owing to our busy itinerary at Disney. It's likely that this will be the case in future too. Today was also the first day we were a full group since Busch Gardens. It feels like we hardly saw everyone for most of the trip!

Before leaving the hotel there was a bit of commotion from the rest of the group. There was a big insect... A very big insect! They hadn't seen a giant Katydid before, but one had deposited itself on the wall by the lifts. I don't actually think I've ever seen one so big!

We expected the park to be busy, so hadn't planned rides. We just headed straight for the dolphin show upon entry, only to find ourselves with an hour to kill before it kicked off. We wandered down to the underwater viewing where a group of youngsters were sat in the window playing with a plastic ring, the dolphins were really interested in that! We also managed to check out the turtles, manatee and Gators.

The dolphin show was great, we were warned of changes due to maintenance, what we actually got was none of the high wire stuff but a section involving the 4 rescued pilot whales which cannot be returned to the wild (It should be noted that this isn't SeaWorld's decision). The trainers asked us to cheer loudly when the whales did anything to encourage them. We needed no encouragement as it was good to see how they are trained.

With that done Gemma wanted to check out the One Ocean show, the next one was in around an hours time leaving us with a chance to check out Spooktacular. Despite this being our 11th trip to SeaWorld over the years we've never done the Spooktacular part, regardless of it being on while we were there. Gemma picked up a bag and we got a small pile of sweets. It was well worth doing for zero extra cost as the atmosphere was fun and the entertainers were great too.

Before the one ocean show it was clear that one of the whales was far more interested in doing meet and greets. We really enjoyed that the trainers just let her do her thing as she bobbed her head up to look at park guests. The show was slightly shambolic as it often can be, with whales just doing as they pleased at some part. I wouldn't have it any other way!

One Ocean done we decided to get IceCream then check out a few aquariums. Manta is one of our favourites as it's air conditioned and there are some nice species in there. Some of us took advantage of the 10 minutes queue for Manta to snag a ride. It was a same story over at Kraken... So a few of us rode that too.

With those rides done Gemma didn't fancy the walk back to the Shamu stadium for another One Ocean show so we said our goodbyes to SeaWorld for another trip.

That evening we took a walk up to Longhorn Steakhouse on the new complex by the eye, I couldn't seem to build up an appetite on the holiday, so picked a small(!) steak. Gemma's brother Matt decided not to follow my example by ordering a Porterhouse. The food was pretty good but they forgot my Brocolli. I don't think I even asked about it owing to my lacking appetite.
