Mr and Mrs T. Our West Coast adventure May 2016 - Friday, May 27 Last full day
Bit of a lay in today. We had had such a fabulous time we did not want tomorrow to come and wished we could turn the clock back to the beginning.
When we eventually did move we decided to go for a nice long walk – as we had not done much this holiday! – and head in the direction of Ghiradelli Square. First thing to do was find breakfast. We walked down Columbus and found a little place called Eight a.m. There were a couple of tables outside but we went in. The food was excellent. I had a fruit selection waffle. It was huge. Don’t think it was fat free though! If you go in that direction give it a look. Don’t think you will be disappointed. From there we carried on walking towards the front, past the Maritime Museum and towards the rather steep hill that leads up to Fort Mason. Didn’t fancy that so instead made our way on to the municipal pier. Lovely views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz and a great view of the city skyline. After sitting and watching the world go by we slowly walked back and finished up at the area where all the little crab places are near Boudins. Picked up a clam chowder each and found a seat close to the old games museum. Sat eating our lunch listening to a guy on a guitar who was so good. Shame about the seagulls though. Why do people think feeding them is so funny? They are an absolute pain and some are the size of eagles. They were huge! Had a look round the games museum and then outside at the submarine and ship that are tied up on the quay. Walked on to Pier 39 for a stroll round. The area was very busy, it was the start of Memorial Weekend so it was to be expected. Had the obligatory ice cream which we ate outside overlooking the marina. Walked by to the hotel, stopping now and then to watch the various street entertainers who were out. Back at the hotel I unpacked both cases in preparation for a proper pack later. Did not fancy too much for tea so walked across the road to Walgreens where we picked up a couple of really nice salads and some fruit. Ate these back in the room before settling down to watch a bit of TV.
