Moretons Amazing California Adventure day 15
DAY 15 – CORANADO ISLAND & CORVETTE DINER WITH AIMS
(I realise this has been a long time coming since the last post but I really wanted to finish so my kids could read back in the future so pleaes forgive me restarting almost a year later ) not only that but i had a problem half way through this post and couldnt attach any more photos of us with Aims Another lie in today as we didn’t get up until 7am, the plan was to have another easy paced morning. The men watched the Masters golf and Aston Villa vs Spurs. I put some washing on and did some other bits and bobs. We then went for a walk along the beach in the opposite direction to yesterday. Due to it being a Saturday the beach was a lot busier. The boys loved running along the sand, I just loved the warm sun and nice atmosphere. The boys came across a dead seal on the beach, Jacob was a little scared but a local said it happens quite often as they struggle to find food and some starve and get washed ashore. There were lots of beach volleyball games going on, I would love to have a go at this. We walked all the way down to the Crystal Pier, we came across the holiday cottages situated on the pier, they looked lovely but we found out you had to book way in advance to stay in them. We walked down the pier, watched people fish but didn’t see anyone catch anything. We watched the surfers for a long time, some of them were very good but some were really bad Dick spotted some dolphins in the distance through his binoculars; they were jumping up and not to far a way from a boat that was out at sea. We spent ages just watching people; the weather was perfect as it was hot but not too hot. We crossed the road and walked back down the bay side. On the way we went in the Sketchers shop where Sue and Dick purchased matching shoes! The bay side was much quieter, we stopped to play football but the sand was getting very hot to walk on. Jacob and Lucas played in the water on the boogie boards for a while. We went back to the house for a cup of tea, and managed to squeeze in a game of connect 4 as well to please Jacob. After an hour we set off for Coronado Island, the main reason for going here was to cross the bridge. Dick and I thought the bridge was amazing. Coronado was very busy and we searched for ages for somewhere to park. We eventually found an underground parking area, which charged $3 for every 30 minutes! If I emigrate I am opening a car park in Coronado We went for our daily ice cream at a place called the Moo Time Creamery. They did every flavour you could think of. It was the nicest ice cream of the holiday and quite cheap as well. Coronado was lovely, it reminded us very much of Celebration in Florida. We walked along the beachfront by Del Coronado hotel it was very busy. We headed back to the car before so that we didn’t have to take out a loan to pay the fee to get out. From Coronado we headed towards the Corvette Diner as we were meeting up with Aims to have dinner. Aims had been so helpful since we booked this trip; answered all of my questions and even sent me over maps and books of San Diego. We were not meeting up until 5pm and it was only 2.30pm but we want to find the place and not be rushing around later. It did take us a while to find the diner as it was tucked away in Point Loma Park. We parked up and explored for a bit, we could see a children’s play area across the water so we tried to get to it but we soon realised it was part of the Marine Base that was next to the park. We decided to kill some time and go to the shops which were around a mile away, we browsed round the a dollar tree and then went to a specialised birthday shop and got some good wall banners for the boys that you can’t buy back here. We got back to the diner around 4.30pm, it was very busy, and we put our name down for a table but did have to pretend all our party had arrived. It was very lively inside, with a few kid’s parties taking place. Lots of people were coming out with balloon toys. Aims arrived with her husband Larry and we introduced ourselves and exchanged some gifts. She gave the boys some lovely toy cars and I was given a mug and bag, which I love. Despite having our name down we still waited over an hour for a table, poor old Jacob was starving but he only told me about 3000 times! When our name was called we were seated in the 60’s section, which was very dark And very very loud, but great fun. Our waitress was called Dee Dee and she was proper crazy but looked after us very well. We loved the restaurant but looking back it probably wasn’t the ideal place to meet someone for the first time as it hard to hear each other talk. The food was excellent and the portions were massive, the milkshakes were also very nice and very filling. Lee took the boys to the arcade, as Jacob was desperate to go, a man gave them a card with some extra credits on so they were very happy. We didn’t write down what the bill came to, but it wasn’t expensive and we would definitely go there again. It was so lovely to meet up with Aims and Larry. Aims had been so helpful with our planning and gave us some great tips; we will definitely keep in touch. We said our goodbyes and left the restaurant just before 8pm. It was a fairly straightforward drive home and we were soon all in bed as we had an early start tomorrow as we were off to the Safari Park.

Great trip report! I just read it all as we are heading to the west coast for the first time next year. Would you mind posting the link to the house you stayed in in San Diego? We are looking for one near the beach.
