Star Wars, Bar Bores and No Chores...22 August 2017 - Day 5 - Drinking around the world...

Today’s plan included a morning at Animal Kingdom where we planned to have breakfast at Donald’s dining safari at 8.05am. We have tried it before and although we find Tusker House very noisy, we really like the jungle juice and the brilliant breakfast selection. We sat down the night before though, and as the previous day had been so full everyone wanted to try a bit of a lie in. So we changed plans and decided on a game of mini golf instead, and to just go to Epcot where we had planned our evening and afternoon anyway.

So, after a bit of a lie in we had breakfast at the Riverside Mill.

Just before 9am Antony had a French Toast platter and I had another large yoghurt parfait, we had 57 QSM’s remaining.

We then visited the snow course at Winter Summerland golf course which we always enjoy.

We had also planned to spend the afternoon at Typhoon Lagoon, but the weather was looking decidedly ‘iffy’.

For dinner we had booked Teppan Edo at 7.10pm at World Showcase and we were all looking forward to a trip to that, particularly Cole.

Our Epcot fastpasses were Turtle Talk with Crush at 4.25pm, Frozen Ever After 5.45pm and Spaceship Earth at 8.30pm.

We felt so lucky at being able to spend a bit more time at Epcot as it’s such a big park, it always feels a bit of a rush, particularly when its blazing hot or raining and you are seeking cover. Not today though.

So after the golf, we entered Epcot at a leisurely pace, and made our way to the pavilions, this time having a ‘proper’ look round everything.

I should also add that before our drinking round the world began we picked up a Grande Frappe Vanilla Bean Cream, a Vendi Frappe Caramel, and a Vendi Frappuccino Strawberry Crème from Starbucks and at that point we had 113 snack credits left.

We stopped for a few drinks as we made our way around, we browsed the shops and generally had fun taking photos and looking at everything each area had to offer and obviously enjoyed the highlights like the Chinese theatre (the movement made me feel a bit lightheaded but I did enjoy it) and the Japanese drummers who were fantastic.

We stopped at Mexico, for our first Epcot cocktails, these were $29.10 and I have absolutely no idea what my drink was called but I know it was a seasonal margarita and it was $14.75. Antony had a draft beer at $9.75. The F&WF would begin a couple of days after we left for home, which made me very sad as it must be a brilliant event to visit and the various areas were already under construction.

We stopped a bit later on in France where I had a Grey Goose slushy and that was even nicer, totally delicious. We spent $17.75 for two drinks in France and the polite word for our current state would definitely be ‘tipsy’ as the drinks were strong!

Tried on some hats, the alcohol was getting to our heads by now..

Joe snuck in a quick snack on the way too...

Delicious but melted very quickly...

We also enjoyed sitting on a bench watching a couple of rock bands in England who were playing classic hits and were very good. Antony got chatting to an American musician who knew some of them and this guy was telling him how he liked to hang out and watch the bands in Epcot in the UK pavilion when he was in Florida as it reminded him of the old times. He wasn’t boastful in the slightest, he was just saying how lucky he had been in his career having played at Madison Square Gardens many, many times and having reaped the rewards and the houses and the cars and things and how it was much harder for musicians these days. I just wish we had recognised him! He definitely had something about him which alluded to his fame.

Still the UK bands were fab playing lots of classic rock, the children enjoyed it too just in case you’d thought we had lost them by now, we recognised plenty of hits as they were playing loads of rolling stones, Beatles etc. We also enjoyed an American dream at the Fife and Drum Tavern, I used a snack credit for that. Antony also had a Bud lite which cost $7.75 and it was about 3pm by that point.

I also had a dipped frozen chocolate banana which was a snack credit and Joe had a Mickey sandwich at about 2.30pm. We were down to 109 snacks by this point.

Que totally inappropriate picture...

Apologies the child in me got the better of me...

However I think the photopass photographer would win the inappropriate award - he reassured us when we were dubious about this one that it would in fact spell love... I can't quite see it myself...

Nearly forgot! before we watched the rock band in the UK pavilion we had a quick drink at the Rose and Crown, and as always it was pretty poor we really were just stopping for some shade, we had a diet coke, some coke and a half pint of Harp lager and a pint and a sprite at $3.49 for the soft drinks and that was about 4pm and the total was $33.10 which was a fairly steep round! The Harp was truly dreadful, almost flat and practically undrinkable but at least everything was cold.

We had planned to continue this evening at Epcot as it was extra evening hours. Frozen Ever After we all really enjoyed and Norway definitely has the nicest restrooms in Epcot and we loved pottering round lots of shops, particularly Morocco and Norway.

When we decided on a light breakfast in resort, we managed to make a late lunch reservation for Biergarden for the buffet and the entertainment and the only charges there were $26.62 for a big stein of beer for Antony and a wine flight for me. The wine choices were great and we were seated with some nice Canadian people with German family, who love to visit Biergarden for the Riesling! We didn’t rate the food, but we did like it there and the entertainment was really fun as was watching people interact with the band and the dancing, and again we had a nice rest from the heat.

Is this the world's biggest beer or what?

I got one too, purely for research purposes mind...

Some of our food - a good enough selection just nothing to rave over given the brilliant food choices at Epcot.

It’s a wonder we had any appetite by the time our dinner reservation came round, but Teppan Edo was as superb as we remembered in 2015. We had an excellent chef and joined a really lovely German couple with their young child at our table. They were on their second Disney vacation, and were there for six weeks! I’m a huge Tim Tracker fan, as was my new German friend - so we mostly chatted about our shared interests and love of Florida, as well as the enjoying the fabulous food at Teppan Edo and we also chatted through our plans over the next few days.

The food was excellent and Cole wasn’t disappointed. After a brilliant meal we visited Mitsukoshi store and Cole got his Titan Cap Scout Canvas Snapback Hat for $24.95. He was pleased with that and he also got some sweets called Mrnga which were a few dollars. We also bought some water and enjoyed watching the Reflections from the Pavilion and even though we didn’t leave the restaurant until nearly 9pm there was still plenty of space to watch the fireworks.

Our only bill at Teppan Edo was some beer for Antony and a small wine for me and the tip – total $59.98 and we used TS for everything else. Definitely one of our best Disney meals which is more of a lovely night out if you can time your reservation with the fireworks.

We ended our fab day catching the resort bus back and were soon in bed about 10.30pm. I had some headache tablets as all that alcohol had caught up with me. I really enjoyed the day though as did the children. We had rushed through the pavilions on other trips and I’m glad we took the time to enjoy them properly today, we spent a lot of time looking at various shops and although we didn’t buy too much, we felt happy they we had the opportunity to really explore and try on a lot of hats…!

Day 6

What a great day.
I can see the LOVE!
We are going to Teppan Edo for the first time, great to read your report about it. We’ve booked for 7pm so not sure if we’ve timed it right though!

Thanks for posting.

It was an action packed but honestly fabulous day and so hot, it was lovely to enjoy the meals inside and the much needed air con - you will love Teppan Edo and I know its hard to get the firework slots when eating there, but we have never felt rushed and had great service both times. I wish we were back there now!

I think Epcot has such a special place in all our hearts and I've promised myself time to try different pavilions next trip - the beer I'm Germany was fab ice cold and nice to enjoy the shade and traditional music and dancing but for food Teppan Edo is so delicious.

Definitely one of my favourites and the children think so too!
