Can anyone confirm if you still have to get up at silly o'clock to go through immigration before you disembark?
Not on our last cruise in Feb. 2008 on The Disney Magic.
.....since the Americans now need passports themselves, I understood that this practice had stopped permenantly (apart from on St Thomas ?).

Done some investigating. Seems we get a lie in after all.
Required Documentation for non US or Canadian Citizens
All Guests who are not U.S. or Canadian citizens must have valid passports and necessary visas at time of embarkation. Travel documents required throughout the vacation are the responsibility of the Guest. Please consult with your Travel Agent, government agencies, embassies or consulates to determine necessary documentary requirements. For all non-U.S. citizens, including Canadian citizens, travel documents will be collected at check-in by a Disney Cruise Line representative and a receipt will be issued for presentation to Immigration Inspectors upon return to Port Canaveral. Any Guest traveling without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of cruise fare will be issued.
Customs Regulations
U.S. customs regulations is often confusing to people. As a rule of thumb, if your travel as taken you out of the United States , you must declare all articles acquired during your trip and in your possession at the time of your return.
This includes:
* Items that you purchased.
* Items purchased in duty-free shops or on board the ship.
* Items you have been requested to bring home for another person.
* Repairs or alterations made to any articles taken abroad and returned, whether or not repairs or alterations were free of charge.
* All items you intend to sell or use in your business. Promotional items and samples for Customs purposes are only those items that are valued at $1 or less.
* If you are celebrating any occasion on your cruise and have gifts presented to you while abroad. These would be items such as wedding and birthday presents or inherited items.
The limits to the amount of duty-free merchandise differs depending on the cruise itinerary.
While on Disney Cruise, all Guests (one per family) must complete a U.S. Customs Declaration Form to submit to U.S. Customs. Those Guests (one per family) that have exceeded the Customs allowance are required to submit a completed U.S. Customs Declaration Form to Customs prior to debarkation. Specific times and locations will be delivered to your stateroom the night before debarkation.
Customs Declaration Forms are also available in different languages at the Guest Services Desk located on Deck 3, Mid-Ship. You will be subject to additional fines if you fail to declare purchases over the Customs allowance. U.S. Customs will continue to make random inspections in the luggage hall area. These limits are mandated by U.S. law and are subject to change.
3 and 4 night Bahamian Itineraries
There are lots of exciting duty-free shopping right on board in the shops on Disney the Disney Wonder as well as on shore in Nassau ! Each Guest returning from the Bahamas to the U.S. can bring back up to a total of U.S. $800 worth of duty-free merchandise (retail price). Each Guest 21 and older is limited to 2 liters of alcohol, of which 1 liter must be produced in the Bahamas and Guests 18 and older are limited to 200 cigarettes and 100 cigars (excluding Cuban cigars). These limits are mandated by U.S. law and are subject to change.
7 night Western Caribbean Itinerary
The exemption for each Guest returning from the Western Caribbean to the U.S. is a total of U.S. $800 worth of duty-free merchandise (retail price) from Grand Cayman , Cozumel and Castaway Cay. Each Guest 21 and older may acquire 1 liter of alcohol and Guests 18 and older are limited to 200 cigarettes and 100 cigars (excluding Cuban cigars). These limits are mandated by U.S. law and are subject to change.
7 night Eastern Caribbean Itinerary
Each Guest returning from the Eastern Caribbean to the U.S. can bring back up to a total of U.S. $1,200 worth of duty-free merchandise (retail price). However, no more than $800 in combined purchases can be made on board the ship, St. Maarten and Castaway Cay. Or, the entire U.S. $1,200 exemption may be used on purchases from St. Thomas alone. Each Guest 21 and older is limited to 5 liters of alcohol (only 1 liter can be acquired in St. Maarten or on the ship, with an additional 4 liters being exempt if purchased on St. Thomas, provided at least 1 liter is produced in the U.S. Virgin Islands). Each Guest 18 and older is limited to 5 cartons of cigarettes (only 1 carton can be acquired in St. Maarten or on the ship, with an additional 4 cartons being exempted if purchased on St. Thomas) and 100 cigars (excluding Cuban cigars). These limits are mandated by U.S. law and are subject to change.

...you still have to be off the ship well before 9 o'clock... and you may well get woken early by all the docking activity going on if you are in an outside cabin.

for RCCL, Freedom of seas, disembarcation was by way of colour code...you had to be in certain lounges at a certain time, between about 6.30am and 8.30am. As a tip, give a LATER time for getting off if you don't have to be off early...we said we had to be off by 9am and were given 8.30am time slot.

If you choose to carry your own luggage off you can disembark whenever you want

It's a Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah Tip for Today!
Can confirm that when we went last time there was no immigration at 6.00 am. Which meant that my DH was spared further blushes as the first time we went he had to get on the stage for Immigration in his shorty PJ's because he had packed his clothes in the suitcases which were in the arrivals hall!!! Wish I had taken my camera!!

Just returned from a Disney Cruise and can confirm that we had to be at breakfast at 6.45 (although it can start at 6.30 depending on your dining allocation) and then we waited to leave the ship.
We were allowed off from approx 8am and disembarkation was surpisingly quick. All baggage had already been colour coded and sorted numerically for collection so the whole process took about 20 minutes. Very, very efficient
