Day 4 - Shopping
West Coast Trip Report Index
Cast Me - Laura - 23 Planner and organiser. Loves travelling, food and having fun! DF - Kris - 24 Driver and plan follower. Loves travelling, food and having fun! Day 4 - Shopping Falling asleep at 7 the previous night turned out to be a bad idea! I was mostly awake from about 3 and finally got up a 7. I lie in for us technically if you ignore the fact I'd been awake for serveral hours. Kris slept well he said. We got showered, dressed, etc and left the room about 9. We had a quick breakfast of toast, muffins and orange juice in the hotel tea room before heading out. The plan for today was a more restful day following our busy first few days and to get a bit of shopping done! We got on the cable car and headed back to the Westfield shopping centre after last night's disastrous attempt at shopping. First stop was Walgreen's (although a different one to our "local") to get me a Sinex spray thing as my cold was still getting worse. We spent the rest of the morning touring the shops; Apple, Old Navy, Footlocker and Bloomingdales. "Bloomy's" was the only place we actually bought anything - a plastic "brown bag" handbag and a Christmas tree decoration. I love this shop but it is so expensive! The sales assistant said she loved our accents and asked us loads about the UK. Despite only buying 2 small items we walked out of there with a mix of about 20 different little, medium and big brown bags! We sat outside Bloomingdales taking in the poshness of this shopping centre! We particularly loved the curved escalators! We headed back to the hotel about two to dump our bags and then onto Macy's to eat at the Burger Bar (note this is the second attempt). When we got there we found that despite all the notices, it wasn't actually open yet. I was gutted as I really wanted to try it. We were really hungry by this point so bought a $4 hotdog from a stand outside Macy's to share while we decided where else we could try for lunch. Rainforest Cafe was the renewed plan but we were pretty far from Fisherman's Wharf. So we walked the couple of blocks down to the Westfield Centre and got on the not-so-packed-today F line car to the Wharf. The Rainforest Cafe was so cool! I loved the theming and our server was lovely. Kris had "Mojo Bones" which were ribs and a coke and I had a BBQ bacon cheeseburger and a "Brazilian Freeze" to drink. I remember the drink being really tasty but, 3 months on, can't remember what it was. I know it was a soft drink though. We decided to have a dessert here so shared a Chocolate Diablo ( a massive chocolate fudge cake with raspberry). (Make the most of these food pictures - I'm normally too embarrased to take them but the restaurant was fairly quiet) The food was great except the fries which were really hard and crunchy. We paid $67 including tip and left at about 4 (not before touring the gift shop of course). We got back on the F line and returned to Westfield for some more shopping! I had left my jumper on the F line on the way to the Rainforest Cafe so bought a new one from Old Navy and Kris bought a t-shirt from GAP. All shopped out we walked back towards Union Square, stopping at Starbucks for a hot chocolate, to rest our feet and do a bit of people watching! We had a little nosy through Union Square taking a few pictures along the way and got back to the hotel about 7. Back at the hotel we sorted all the shopping out and had yet another little rest while watching silly American TV. At about 9 we were feeling a little peckish so popped across the road to Asia Express. We had an Orange Chicken, Lemon Chicken and Chow Mein to share which cost $8. We took it back to the hotel to eat. It was ok, but a bit like a Mcdonalds version of chinese food if you get what I mean. Absolutely knackered by now, we fell asleep about 10pm. Tomorrow - Lombard Street, Chinatown and boat tour Edited at 09:23 PM. |
