Christmas 2010 with Mickey - Travel Day!

Sorry no pics again today but I promise there are lots to come as of tomorrows report.

7am the alarm goes off! Still no cancellation or delayed text from Virgin - Result!
We get up, showered, dressed, check out of the travel lodge and head over to the long stay south carpark.
We did do twi-light check in so didnt need to be at the airport so early, however after the past few days we just wanted to be there, and know everything was ok.
It takes a little while to get parked, because of the snow, use of the white lines was impossible so alot of cars were parked using 2 spaces through no fault of their own. We eventually find a good spot and catch the bus over to the terminal.
Our flight should have been at 1pm, We get through security pretty quick and by 9am we're eating our mcmuffins in mcdonalds. Classy eh?!

We'd finished breakfast, and spent a good hour or more in duty free, spending way more than we could afford on perfumes etc. I got Daisy by Marc Jacobs, mum got J'adore and my parents bought my brother a limited edition diesel...dont know the name of it sorry.
Anyways our flight was still not up on the departures board...our delayed flight from Saturday was still up their saying scheduled? and we could see the morning flight with Virgin had been cancelled.
We trotted of to the information desk to find out what was going on, as you could imagine, panic and stress was all present again. As it happened when we got to the info desk there were 2 Virgin reps there, we asked them and they told us the flight had now been delayed until 6.15pm - oh what joy! and what is the point in information boards if they're not going to display that kind of info. We heard a lot of other families all asking similar questions...the whole airport was just chaos to be honest. There were fights breaking out all over the place between passengers who had either been delayed or cancelled and airport staff, babies and children crying everywhere. There were even armed gaurds escorting people of premises.
We happened to end up sitting right next to a group of people who were supposed to also be on our flight so we kept each other informed if we heard anything.

By 2pm we were all getting fed up...no where to go, nothing to do. It was then announced that certain airlines were issuing food vouchers for anyone who had been delayed over a certain number of hours.
£15 each we were given, so we trotted off to Frankie and Bennys for a late lunch. We all had a very nice pasta dish and garlic bread to share, and a drink each, mum and I also shared a dessert...we only had to pay an extra £1.55 to cover the cost of the bill. Virgin - its the least you could have done, but thanks all the same.

We managed to kill just over an hour...we were hoping the service would actually be quite slow lol, but nope, they were very quick, and we didnt feel we could drag it out any longer as there were a queue of people waiting to be seated probably in the same kind of situation as us.
So we were back sitting in the departure lounge again by around 4ish. Our flight was 6.15 so we were on the lookout to start boarding pretty soon(ish) I have never spent so much time looking up at a screen of flight numbers lol.
I honestly cant remember exactly what time we were called to the gate, but when we got there... guess what?! IT STARTED SNOWING!
You should have heard everyone, panicking like crazy (inc us) they announced over the tannoy that we needed to get on the plane quick sharp to be able to get out tonight... it still seemed to take forever, and we sat on the plane in a blizzard...luckily for us though, the good ol pilots got us up, by the skin of our teeth we made it away. 54 hours later than we should have been.
The whole plane cheered and clapped as we left the ground and relief set in.
Another 30mins and we would have been delayed again or cancelled.

Heres the link to the video I took of take off...
youtube/watch?v=Hvd1U9QsKCg

I honestly cant remember what time we landed... we were all dead men walking.
We got the magical express and arrived at the All Star Music at around 1am - I think!
We got checked in and were in room 8664 in the Broadway building...a good 5+min walk from the hotel lobby.

On arrival at the room, we were very pleased, we had a room at the end of the building so we could see the pool in one direction and the main themed area of the building. The room was a good size for the 3 of us, very clean and tidy etc.
We unpacked quite quickly, and for some reason felt the need to decorate our bedroom window right away too, so did that.

I was expecting a memories by Betsy basket to be in the room on arrival but it wasnt. Any other time I'd have left it, but mum and dad were talking about buying re-fillable mugs at breakfast the next morning, and I'd already got them in the basket...so I didnt want to risk not having it in time before breakfast. So at 2am I was trekking back to the lobby to see if they had our basket...and yes they did.
It didnt get opened that night, mum did the whole, wow lovely thanks bit and I just told them that the re-fillable mugs are in it so not to buy any.

I think we rolled into bed near 2.30am and were all asleep as soon as our heads hit the pillows.

Tomorrow - do we hit the parks right away or relax after a few stressful days? !

You were so lucky to get away when you did as didn't the airport shut just after you left and didn't reopen until the following morning
