HOT HOT Honeymoon with the new Mr H - June 11 - Day 6
After what felt like an hours sleep (in fact it was 2 hours but hey!) we grabbed the bags and headed down to reception. We were checked out and waiting for the van by 3.30am.
After waiting 10minutes I started to get jittery, it was still within the pickup time slot but I still checked on the super shuttle app to see where it was. It said less than a minute away and sure enough it was. Bags on and settled I noticed that we had a further 3 pick ups on the route, this seemed ok as it was still over 2 hours before our flight. I WAS WRONG! after the 3 pick ups, returning twice to one address as they didn’t turn up on time, I think my death scare showed them what I thought of that! We arrived at the airport 50 MINUTES before our flight. I grabbed the suitcase from the driver and legged it into the terminal… … and into a HUGE QUEUE! AHHHHHHHH! They seemed to be trialling a completely automated system that nobody seemed to be able to use. This was causing chaos with people not moving to empty booths, people trying to check in more baggage than they were allowed, just hell really. Eventually I made it to a booth and noticed check in was closing in less than 5 minutes. I rammed the passports into the machine, which really wasn’t playing ball. In the end I had to hand them over to my new calm and collected husband to sort as I was reaching meltdown. Finally we made it and headed over to the calming sanctuary of the gate. Since it was very early morning I took the opportunity to call into work to check the place hadn’t burned to the ground without me, obviously it hadn’t, but it’s good to check, it calms my inner control freak :p As I put the phone down I head an announcement “Could a Mr ****, party of two please make himself known to a member of staff” Eek! Had I really broken the check in machine ? Turns out in our haste we hadn’t chosen to allocate seats and they needed to do it before we boarded. Boarding started and a quick check of our tickets showed we were in premium economy yippee! On a domestic flight this didn’t get you very much, just more legroom but I wasn’t complaining! The flight was a quiet one, it was basically a few families and a very large asian tour group. A coffee and muffin later we landed. We were in vegas woohoo! And all before 9am ;P We waited ages for the luggage, as they changed the pickup location while we were waiting. Not to worry we were soon on our way to the taxi rank, which was a mass of barriers as there was nobody waiting. Wednesdays were obviously not a busy day in Vegas! We were proved right when we hit no traffic and arrived at the MGM signature ‘tower 1’ ready to check in a few minutes later. Adam had emailed a few weeks earlier and made a request for a strip view, which they had been able to accommodate, yay! We were on floor 32 and I got very excited when I saw the letters “PH” next to the floor number in the lift, oooo we must be on a posh floor ;P The room was fabulous, it was more of a suite than a room, if I had had my way I would have jumped into the bath there and then! The view from the balcony was nice too. VERY HIGH! As we’d been up since 3 we decided to take a little siesta until lunchtime to try and catch up on some much needed sleep, we must have needed it as we didn’t wake up until after 1 oops! We decided to head out and look at some of the attractions down our end of the strip. We had a quick wonder around our hotel Before heading over to NYNY, we headed towards the walkway and entered an oven, well that’s what it felt like to me anyway! I pretty much ran across to escape the heat, leaving Adam to take photos. I really hate the heat and although I knew it was going to be hotter than anything I’d experienced before I was not prepared for just how bad it would be ☹ As we were both very hungry by now we grabbed a large lemonade, two hot dogs and some fries from the Nathans stand. Fed and watered we headed across the walkway to the Excalibur Hotel I thought this was an awful hotel, the most like blackpool of anywhere I saw in vegas, they would have to pay me to stay here. We tried to make a quick exit but all the signs for the luxor walkway turned into dead ends so we gave up and braved the heat. VERY bad move I fried. We had a quick look around the Luxor, again it wasn’t at all what I had expected, before making a move for the Mandalay Bay. At this point I was more than a little bit cranky. I was hot, tired, had an awful headache and so far I was more than a little underwhelmed by vegas. It was everything I had expected it to be but now I was here I was suddenly hit by just how pointless the place was as a destination. I’d like to say this was just because I was tired but now back in the UK I still feel the same, it’s safe to say, I’m not a fan. Adam felt in no way the same as me, so deciding to make the most of it I dosed up on pills and headed into the shark reef. This was a really great attraction, lots of really unusual things, huge rays and obviously some seriously scary looking sharks, well worth the admission and it perked me up a little after a disappointing start.

We headed back via the walkways again, this time we found one from the luxor and used it to our advantage. When we reached the MGM I decided to brave the heat and head down to the tixtonight stand to see if there was anything on.
It was already getting very late so we knew the early shows were a no no and we wanted something fairly cheap. In the end we settled on Crazy Horse Paris for $35 each as it started at 10.30 and was in our hotel…. Oh and there was a bit of nudity, well there had to be some on our honeymoon after all! Tickets in hand we headed back to our room, exchanging our tickets at the box office on the way and watching the lions for a while as it was quiet. When we got back I jumped in the bath for a nice soak, and I’m ashamed to say it, a snooze. I’m glad I did though as I felt much better when I got out, the sunset from the balcony was fantastic to, maybe vegas wasn’t so bad :P We hadn’t made dinner reservations so we decided to head to the MGM and see what sort of places there were nearby. It was now 8pm so I wasn’t hopeful of getting in anywhere, the whole place was now buzzing. I really liked the idea of going to the wolfgang pucks place on the casino floor, so far we’d avoided him this holiday but I wanted to give it a try, it didn’t look promising as there were people sat with menus waiting, but luckily when I asked they did have a table for 2 available. We shared some chicken wings to start Adam said they were the best EVER, and he ate most of them ;P My body was calling out for something healthy I think, as I ordered a pear and pink lady apple salad… …and not so healthy chips with melted blue cheese and white truffle on top yummy though ;P Adam had the gnocchi We arrived at the show in good time to make sure we got a good seat (you are assigned tables but not seats). I had a spot of bother when I handed the tickets over and they turned out to be the tickets from the shark reef, rather embarrassing, I was clearly still asleep! Sorted it out with my room key though so not a problem. We had a great view and after an uncomfortable start, wasn’t sure what to expect, it turned out to be a really good show, erotic but not in a seedy way. The show finished just before 12 and as we were both still shaken from the early morning we headed straight back to the room, sharing a quick coke on the balcony before hitting the sack Praying for cooler weather tomorrow so we could do some serious exploring! Continue to Day 7

The heat really got to you, I have only ever been to Vegas in December and March so I'm the same as you dreading the August heat!
I'm glad you gave me a heads up on the Airport check in at San Fran to Vegas, we are doing the same thing. I will make usre we arrive in plenty of time We have opted for the 11am (ish) flight with Virgin America, who did you fly with? |

we flew with united airlines which was in a different terminal to virgin. I know this as we dropped someone off there and it felt like an age before we got to ours. It was a little stupid, we were the first of everyone on the bus to fly by a good hours yet we were the last to be dropped off?!?! so not logical :$ Own stupid fault I guess. I'll definitely be booking an earlier shuttle if we do it again

I'm not sure the idea of Vegas really grabs me either, but I think I need to give it a try some day. Hope you warmed to it (no pun intended) the next day

I regonise that view we also stayed on the 32nd floor in Tower 1 a couple of years ago.
Lovely photos, looking forward to going back in November although it won't be so hot then thankfully.
