Cali-vacation Celebration San Francisco/Salinas Day 5

Saturday July 28th Salinas

We checked out of our first hotel today and picked up our car from Alamo in Union Square. Christopher caught a bus over while I showered and packed up our room. Jordan didn’t look very well so he had a lie down and fell asleep. When Christopher got back he woke Jord up and was shocked to see his face was quite swollen. We think he had a bit of a reaction to the sun cream so we told him to wash it off and we gave him some anti-histamine. As a result he slept most of the morning in the back of the car.

We sadly checked out and waved goodbye to San Francisco. We hadn’t got far though when we began to feel hungry. We were just passing a sign for Half Moon Bay so we decided to stop for an early lunch. We went to the Main Street Diner which was full to the brim with locals. We all had variations of all day breakfasts, diet cokes and it was $40, very nice.

We continued on our journey and followed the coast road down to Santa Cruz as we had planned to ride the rollercoaster on the boardwalk. The drive down was lovely right next to the ocean. We saw lots of eagles and big birds of prey. When we got to Santa Cruz the traffic was heaving and after trying to park for ages we gave up. Jord wasn’t too disappointed as he was still sleepy.

We carried on to our next hotel which was the Laurel Inn in Salinas. We have booked this hotel as we are planning on going to the Moto GP (motorcycle race) in Laguna Seca the next day. We check in and are given a huge room which we are pleased with. We take some photos and pop out to Wal-Mart for the first time this holiday. We pick up some bits and pieces and the boys get a Subway and go back to our hotel.

It was nice to see the sun 'cos San Fran was a bit cold!

Jord was ok after having some anti histamines, they zonked him out for a bit though. There again teenagers know how to sleep

The coast road was amazing, we were in Monterey for two days and had planned to drive back to Santa Cruz but never made it.
