Cali-vacation Celebration Day 11 Carpenteria
Friday 3rd August
Got up at 8 for breakfast and it was lovely. We all had a cheese omelette and variations of boiled eggs, cereals, waffles and muffins, and as much coffee as we could drink. Full up we headed into Santa Barbara. We had a look around the Historic District for a while, but a lot of it was closed off, so we headed to the beach. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] DH and DS, playing with a frisbee that we had in Pizza my Heart. The slices of pizza are served on frisbees, and you can buy yours for 75c at the end. We parked the car and then we saw the reason for all the road closures - a carnival. They were holding the Viva La Fiesta Festival. We watched for a while as lots of people on horses paraded past. There were various groups, and sheriff departments on decorated horses, and ornate floats with people on them waving. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] We watched it for a bit, and while it was all good, and it was nice seeing the community all out together celebrating, but it wasn’t for us (you should have seen Jord’s face). We went to the beach and it was lovely but there was a lot of kelp in the sea, which was also very cold. So we packed up for lunch. Because of the festival the town was very busy so we drove back to Carpentaria for lunch. We walked around the town for a bit, and it was really nice. We went into Jack’s Bistro and it was lovely. It was just a small independent restaurant, and we seemed to have better meals in these sorts of independents or small chains, rather than the usual big chains. We actually remembered to take some foodie photos. We were really full for a very reasonable $36. [IMG][/IMG] Breakfast Burrito DS [IMG][/IMG] Grilled Chicken sandwich with potato salad DH [IMG][/IMG] Smoked salmon scrambled egg me We went to our local beach and thought it was nicer than Santa Barbara. Dh and Ds went in the sea, which I was assured was very cold (I’ll never know) and I read my kindle in the sun. We had a few hours on the beach, much to Jord’s relief, we couldn’t believe that it was his first time this holiday in the sea. [IMG][/IMG] "awwhhh come on dad" " I don't know, it looks a bit cold to me", and it was [IMG][/IMG] After a while we came back to the hotel for a splash around in the pool. Then, when the sun went down we went up to our room and watched Jurassic Park 3, with a few glasses of wine. Hoody watch – didn’t wear it all day. But did carry it with me when walking around Santa Barbara. So when we got back to the room, had a ceremonial folding and put it in the bottom of the case. Thank goodness for that.

Hurrah for the sunshine - we braved the sea at Venice Beach - it was absolutely freezing so it was a quick in and out for photo purposes !
A friend had told us we "really must" visit Santa Barbara but we didnt really think it was anything to rave over .

Yes, got to agree with you, nice to see, but not really a must do, more a stop over on our way down to San Diego. The sea was freezing but our Welsh boys braved it! Welsh girls very didn't
