Just Me and My Girl - Oct 2012 - Day 6

Day 6 – The one with the magic

Yesterdays behaviour and strop was largely brought on by tiredness so today I decided to start the day off at a much slower pace by letting Connie sleep until she woke up naturally. She still woke up at a not too late time of 8am but we were still going to take this morning slowly so we got dressed and went for a leisurely breakfast at Sassagoula Float-works. After filling ourselves up on bounty platters and juice we hit the pool (shudder) well actually Connie hit the pool in her life vest at the shallow end and I bagged a great sun bed position close by to watch her whilst I got up the courage to take a dip! After half an hour or so I decided to be brave and got in myself largely with the idea that I would try and get Connie to do a bit of floating and putting her head under the water. She took off her vest and was very happy ducking up and down and letting me hold her up in the pool to float on her back.

After lots of this she was doing so well that I said that by the end of the holiday I really thought she would be able to swim a few metres by herself and that if she did I would buy her another pin for her lanyard. Well that was the right thing to say because then she was really excited and wanted to try swimming now and with that she swam from the step towards me and did about 3 metres all by herself arms and legs going and no putting her feet down! Amazing we were both really excited (at school she is the only one really struggling to swim and is for some reason really frightened of the water but not in Florida!) An American lady was sitting in the pool watching us and asked if it was her first time swimming and we said yes so she offered to film it if Connie wanted to try again and she would email us a video clip. With that Connie set off again but this time swam a good 5 metres really well, it was one of those really proud Mummy moments! I then had a lovely chat with the kind lady who was called Hope while Connie played about (with her vest back on, she's not that good yet!) I have got the video clip but I have no idea how to upload it on to here will give it ago if someone points me in the right direction with instructions! Connie had a long play and spent a good hour or so just going down the slide over and over again.

Late morning we called time on the pool and went back to the room to get showered and changed then went to the hotel shop, after all a promise is a promise, and we got Connie a new pin, Ariel of course and then she told the sales lady why she was getting the pin and with that she was also given almost a whole reel of Minnie and mickey stickers and a Mardi gras bead necklace! We got the bus to Magic Kingdom which was already waiting at the bus stop and were at MK by 12.45.

We picked up some more SOTMK cards and then even though we are not going to start collecting pins no not us I bought a pin to go on my lanyard too! Next we went and got Connies silhouette cut at the little stall halfway down Main street I really do think this is one of the best value souvenirs on Disney Property for just over $16 you get 2 copies and a frame and it is a lovely thing to be treasured for ever.

We watched the Dreams Come True show before getting lunch at Pecos Bills the place was packed but mainly with people who had got tables before getting their food so you had the usual scrum of people balancing full trays wandering around then making a mad dash to get a table when one became free. This really annoys me, it took nearly ten minutes before we eventually made eye contact with someone sitting at a table without food and stared at him until he stood up and offered us the 2 extra chairs available, we had almost finished our lunch before the mans other half arrived with their food. I do think people should be moved on at busy times of day if they haven't yet got their food and people who have need to sit down. (rant over!)

Now the time was approaching for today's main event which was an appointment at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for Connie. We wandered over and as we had been there last year had no problem finding the entrance which is inside the castle just opposite the check in desk for Cinderellas Royal Table very handy if you are planning on doing both! This year I had opted for Connie to have the intermediate Coach package just to cut costs down a bit. Last year Connie had the crown package with the outfit etc. which was great but was very expensive so I had bought her a new Rapunzel dress from the Disney store here (much cheaper option) and took it with us. On arrival Connie was given her invitation and we only had to wait about 5 minutes before a changing room became available.

We went to get her changed, in the changing room they had put a rapunzel wand and crown that I had requested and Connie was soon changed into her new dress and ready to go and get her hair and make-up done. Now last year the Fairy Godmother talked and talked to Connie who didn't really answer but was dumbstruck with what was happening but this year her Fairy Godmother just didn't really bother to communicate with Connie even to the point that after Connie had chosen which hairstyle she wanted which was the Disney Diva and includes hair extension she didn't let Connie chose the colour but just pulled out a dark brown one. Luckily I spotted it and questioned why they were going to use that colour and the Fairy Godmother was a bit attitudey and said “Well the other colour is really really blonde, like platinum blonde” so I asked Connie which do you want the brown or the blonde knowing that her answer would be blonde so the Fairy Godmother got a bit huffy and swapped the colour and then didn't talk to Connie at all for the rest of her makeover but chatted to the fairy godmother who was doing Connies make-up.. Also didn't have very many photos taken by the photo pass photographer and last year they took loads. The finished result was good but I felt that the whole experience lacked a lot of the magic that we had last year the total cost this year still came to $104 so still not cheap. Connie was still a very happy princess when she emerged and I don't think she noticed at all. We popped across to Castle Couture and had some more photos taken and added to our photo pass, the photographer in there was excellent and treated Connie like royalty just as I expected her to be at BBB he bowed to her and greeted her as Princess she loved it.

Next port of call after BBB was to see all the princesses again so off we set up Main Street and got in line which said 15 minutes wait but was actually 50, not that it matters when you have a newly made up princess, people talk to you and the princess dances and entertains everyone around her, she is a little actress my girl, the time passes very quickly.

We also paid Mickey another visit, I really do miss seeing Minnie in there too. Then we headed to Main-street Ice-cream Parlour and got an All American Sundae to share, this was seriously good and another lesson learned they really are not for sharing always get your own! Just as we sat outside to eat it it just started to spit with rain and I thought we were going to have to make a dash for cover but the cloud blew over and it came to nothing.

Time for some rides we rode the tea cups a couple of times and then Connie had a play in the Circus Tent while we waited for our buzzer to go off so we could ride Dumbo, its such a good system and Connie loved climbing about albeit a bit hampered by her princess regalia! We had a good look around the new Circus Tent shop which is great and the candy and cookie part in the middle is mouth watering.

As we came out we saw for the first time tucked away in the corner the entrance to go to the new meet and greet area for Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy so we joined the queue for Minnie and Daisy, you have to line up twice if you want to see all of them. We love Minnie and Daisy's new costumes.

Connie really wanted to ride Winnie the Pooh so we headed there next although I thought it would be a ridiculous wait time and had already said we probably wouldn't be able to ride but our luck was in because the ride had been offline and as we got there they opened the line and we were the first people let through! We came out and literally ran round to join the line again as it was still pretty much a walk on but we knew that wouldn't last.

We rode again but this time the ride got stuck for a couple of minutes but then started up again obviously some honey on the tracks making things a bit sticky still. Connie wanted to go again so we joined the, still, short queue but this time after 5 minutes waiting there was an announcement of a major honey spill and the ride was closed again.
Connie wanted to ride the Carousel so we walked over there and saw that it was pretty much a walk on so started to walk into the entrance and then the magic happened...

Our way was suddenly blocked by 2 cast members who started talking to Connie all the usual stuff hello Princess are you having a fun evening have you seen the princesses etc. etc. which ones have you seen Connie gave all the answers and then they asked her if she had seen Belle and Ariel yet?

Now back in October the new fantasy-land extension hadn't officially opened and tonight they were having a dress rehearsal open only to Cast Members and special invitations had been issued it was not open to the general public.

At this point my heart started to beat really really fast and I was willing Connie not to say she had seen them (after all we had seen them last year) but she looked at them and said No, then the Cms asked her if she would like to see them right now! Connie looked at me and I nodded to her so she said Yes and then the Cms asked me if I minded being stolen from the Carousel and coming with them... Oh gosh I was so excited and I got tears in my eyes and was shaking and said absolutely did not mind one bit! And then they took us over to the entrance to the new fantasy-land!

All the while they were talking to Connie and telling her what she would be able to do and they escorted us into the new fantasy-land and took us up the path past some other people already queueing for Enchanted Tales with Belle right up to the front of the queue told us to go right on in and that we were free to spend as long as we liked in the new fantasy-land and to have a fantastic night! Oh my goodness I love Disney Magic!

What can I say about Enchanted Tales with Belle? Well the first part has to be seen to be believed I have no idea how they did it but one minute you are looking into a mirror and then it magically extends and disappears and becomes the hidden entrance to the beasts castle and you go into the waiting room where the wardrobe talks to you and everyone who wants to be involved in Belles surprise is given a part, Connie was chosen to be the footstool and then we went in for the re-enactment with Belle which is pretty funny, and all the while a photo pass photographer is snapping away and then when it is all over and you leave everyone is handed a photo pass card with all the photos on, brilliant.

Still in shock we headed further into the new area stopping to take photos of the new Gaston fountain and then we went to the new Voyage Under the Sea ride. The queueing area for this is amazing even better when there is no queue! The attention to detail is brilliant the lights are different sea creatures I really liked the sea slug one.

There are various screens set into the background that have a little blue shrimp that is interactive with the people in the queue and it was fascinating to watch as it scuttled about stopping every now and again when someone waved at it and it waved back! The ride itself is great you ride in clam shells then get taken down under the sea and the tale of Ariel is told with animatronics and projections all the while with the film score playing as you go, I apologise now to anyone who heard us singing along at the top of our voices! Spoiler alert photos coming up!

Think Disney cut this one close to the mark you can almost see if Ariel is a genuine redhead!

Right next door to the exit of Under the Sea is Ariel's grotto meet and greet where she is in full Mermaid getup, neither of us have ever seen her with her tail so another first for us. She was very chatty but Connie was just too stunned for words but we did tell Ariel that Connie had swum by herself for the first time today and she told Connie that she should be very proud of herself as swimming with legs is difficult!

Autographs and photos procured we came out in time to see Wishes going off and if you are in that area they are right above your head and very very close and loud!

Connie need a bathroom break so we went to the one next to Gastons , not sure what goes on here as it was so dark but there is some trickery afoot with something that squirts water in that area as it got us going in and coming out!

Back we headed to Under the Sea and rode around again then we went to have a look at the shop which had some nice things in, how much do I want the new dinner set?! Then we had a nosy at Be Our Guest restaurant it was only open for viewing not serving food but the themeing is fabulous especially the glass at the far end which had a view of mountains and was snowing!

The sculptures and mosaics are beautiful

and Connie even spotted a hidden mickey!

We had one last ride on Voyage under the sea and then with one last backwards glance we reluctantly left the new part and headed back to reality it was time for Cinderella to leave the ball!

The second Main-street electrical parade was in full swing but we decided to hot foot it out of the park before the rest of the crowds did and we headed to the bus, it was 10.23 we had a 15 minute wait and then it was a share bus with Riverside so we went round the houses a bit but were in time to order some much needed food back at the hotel we shared a small pizza and salad then both of us fell into bed at 11.55. Magical dreams followed very quickly!

Love Connie made up as Rapunzel but what a shame about the Fairy Godmother.

How magical to get into a preview of Fantasyland. I'm so looking forward to seeing it.
