It didn't go as planned! LV,Zion & GC - The Grand Canyon
Wednesday 17th July, 2013
We all had a good night's sleep thankfully. Breakfast was included in our stay so we set of to find the restaurant. Greeted at the door and told to go help ourselves and then find a seat. It was busy, noisy and mad! We went to find a table first, it was set out with huge refectory tables and very big round tables, so you have to sit with strangers. Glen and I waited while John and Ashley went and got some food. Fruit mainly and a few cooked things (scrambled egg, bacon, sausage). Toast was done on a grill so you have to wait while it cooks. Drinks were tucked in a corner so you had to fight through people with trays of food to get OJ and coffee. Ash had a bit of a stroppy moment as he didn't know what to have to eat and John was grabbing him stuff as they went along the line. Glen didn't have much, just a bit of fruit. I don't like chaos at any time but definitely not first thing in a morning! It was mad. We decided as it was quite early we would chance driving to the Grand Canyon village to park and then catch the shuttle bus to the rim. Car parks were busy but we found a spot no problem. Had a look at the bus routes and had to take one bus to a bus stop to catch another bus to the rim. Both buses were packed to bursting. Eventually we arrived - began to think we never would! My boy was feeling much better today We got off the bus at Hopi Point stop. A brown Colorado River due to all the recent rain they'd had according to the bus driver. They look nearer the edge than they actually were but Ashley was taking no chances as stayed well back Walked for hours before heading back to one of the bus stops to catch the shuttle back to the visitor centre Back at the hotel we had a dip in the pool and had a game of bowling. Glen was tired he came down to the bowling alley but sat out the game. Cont'd ... |

Cont'd ...
None of us was hungry, I don't know if it was the heat or having had a poorly tummy but we were satisfied with drinks. We hadn't eaten since breakfast so you would have thought we were famished! We were determined to see the sunset so headed back to the village. The place was so much quieter than this morning. It had been a little bit drizzly and cloudy so we weren't sure whether we would see much but it cleared for just a few minutes to get some shots. We arrived back in Tusayan about 8.30 and went to McDonalds for tea. It was close to the hotel and we didn't feel like a proper 'sit down' meal so it served it's purpose. Back to the hotel and ready for a good night's sleep until John got up about 11pm feeling sick - yet another night up and down to the bathroom for one of us Edited at 09:31 PM. |
