Do you know what a customs officer thinks of your honest attitude to pay £50 VAT? That you're wasting yours and his time, and his time could be better spent focusing on real criminals trying to defraud £10,000s or smuggling drugs... Blimey, the police tell you they can't be bothered to turn up to your burgled house because it's not serious enough... Doesn't that give you a clue... ?

As for knowing where my watches were purchased... Unless they had a good idea that they were bought in the last 12 months they wouldn't care. The onus would then be on them to show I hadn't previously imported it and/or paid import duty on it - you don't have to pay it every time you enter the country ...

Lighten up people!

We went PE so had an extra bag included

In not into thieving or fiddling but I paid tax on the goods in the US so I didn't avoid paying tax, the import taxes are just another way for the government to squeeze the average joe who already pays far too much for them to waste, your living in Lala land if you think the people who made those laws are not up to much much worse than bringing back a few shirts from holiday

Well you did - you avoided paying UK tax (VAT on normal goods, increased taxes on some items). I am all in favour of people bringing back a reasonable amount of personal goods, but at the same time let's not pretend US sales tax is a surrogate UK VAT/import tax.

The amount of import duty collected/not collected by holidaymakers bringing back a bit too much stuff is so insignificant, well even an ITV undercover fly-on-the-wall documentary couldn't make it entertaining.

Or to put it another way: if you can afford a family holiday to Orlando, you've probably paid plenty of income tax in the last few year!
