Anyone drove to Spain
Hi just wondering if anyone has ever drove to Spain or thereabouts?
We are in Manchester and wondered how long it may take and what's the best crossing to do? Reason for this is owing to my mum who was due to come to Majorca with us 3 weeks ago but told us 2 days before she just could not imagine getting on the plane! She is 80 and never flown before so panic set in. Would love to get her abroad whilst she is in good health and possibly to Spain or thereabouts. Just wondering if anyone has done it and would recommend it? Thanks

Many years ago we got the ferry to Santander in Northern Spain and then drove back up through France for a shorter crossing back. The overnight ferry (24hrs) to Spain was easy and enjoyable.

We drove to a eurocamp just over the border in Spain couple of years ago. Me sister in law has done it for the last few years and is there now. We live in Kent so for us eurotunnel is about 45 mins from home. We drove down to a town in France called st flour where we stayed overnight, about a good 10 -11 hour drive with stops. We then finished the journey the next day and where we ended up was about 2 hours the other side of Spanish border. It was an easy journey to be honest , the Milau bridge is amazing ! I guess do you drive down to Kent for eg and stay before the next bit or keep going to stay in northern France? The worst bit is always around Paris where traffic tends to be heavy! Otherwise no probs ...

Just had a Google, Manchester to eurotunnel is a good 5 hours no stops. You could go to the other side of Paris. ( Paris is about 3 hrs from tunnel) in one day if not bit further, then do the rest second day?

I work for a coach company and we often have coaches going to Spain. If it's straight there, on a coach, 2 drivers go from Dover and they legally have 21 hours spread to drive (including breaks). This is normally the Barcelona area. Your destination in Spain will of course have a huge impact on how long!
Another option would be to cross from Southampton and get the overnight ferry crossing - so you'd drive to Southampton, have a night on board the ferry in a cabin, then carry on your journey the next morning. |

Thanks
Yes we have used euro tunnel a few times and will be again December, decided to stay in premier inn night before this time and get early crossing. We will look into this and look at costs etc and see best route for us. Thanks again
