Child car seats

Hi , I've just signed up to the dibb. what a fab forum!

We are going to Florida at the end of the month and although we have been a few times before, this will be the first time we have hired a car. Our dd is 9 and we were wondering what the law is over there regarding child car seats? If she does need one are we best taking our own or hiring one when we get there?

Thanks

She doesn't need one legally. If she prefers to use one (or you prefer her to use one) then take your own.

If she uses one at home then I would take it with you. She would find it more comfortable as she's used to it and you would have peace of mind x

Thanks guys. I think we will not bother taking one. It will be less to remember on the morning we go!

We find that because the American cars are bigger that the kids are more comfortable with a booster (even if they don't officially need one). You can buy them very cheaply in Walmart or Target

This is good advice. If your DD is uncomfortable or the seatbelt looks too high to sit comfortably over her shoulder, then I would advise buying a cheap one in Walmart or Target as soon as you get a chance. If she is comfortable without one then don't bother. If you are planning a lot of driving then I would consider one. My DDs are small for their ages and can't see out properly without a booster so would be more prone to travel sickness on a long journey. I would also advise NOT sitting your child in the front seat ever, as American airbags are bigger than ours so can do a lot of damage to 'little' people x

Thank you everyone for your replies. I think I will see what the car seats are like when we ge there. We have hired a suv so I would imagine it will be quite roomy in the seats so she might be needing one.

I'm thinking it would be easier to buy one over there and just leave it in the Villa so others can use it too
