Where to stop/what to do on the way home

We are off to DLP next week driving via Eurotunnel. Next Saturday we don't have park tickets and our eurotunnel train isn't until 7pm. We have 2 girls ages 13 and 11. What can we do on our way home? We don't want to go into Paris as we will be doing that another time. I really don't have any ideas.

These suggestions will add no more than an hour to your journey:

You could go back via Ieper in Belgium and give your kids a history lesson... The Menim Gate (listing the names of 50,000 allied soldiers killed in the area but whose bodies were never found), Tyne Cot Cemetery (12,000 graves), WW1 museum (brilliant and really brings the horror to life). Wherever you drive in this area you will come across tiny, but beautifully maintained, cemetaries with Commonwealth soldiers.

Or, if the weather is nice, you could visit the chic seaside resort of Le Touquet...

We've done both on the way back from Paris and they are - in very different ways - excellent ways to break the journey!

Years ago with my parents we stopped in Lille and I fancy going there again as I recall it was very pretty but not sure what there is to do there.

Visit Dunkerque or Boulogne maybe? Both nice towns with shops/restaurants if weather ok.

Or as we did yesterday on our return, spend a few hours at Cite d'europe shopping centre near the eurotunnel terminal. Nice food/shops, inc the excellent and massive carrefour hyermarket (good booze offers normally!).
citeeurope/W/do/centre/accueil

Found quite nice/good value/quality restaurant in there (staff nice/speak english):
flunch/

Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone for your ideas - I just didn't have a clue what to do and I didn't want our last day just to disappear with the journey home

If you are planning on stopping off at Cite Europe then check out the store opening hours first. We've been there late and night and Sunday before and there was very little open.
