Bringing an extra suitcase home...

Hi everyone

Sorry if this has been posted before but -
Has anyone brought an extra 'normal' size suitcase back home with them to the Uk from Florida? :-)

We were thinking of buying one cheap from Walmart and was wondering how much airlines generally charge for you to bring an extra one home. We are flying with Virgin if that helps.

Hi,

We have done this a few times, not with Virgin, but with BA and Continental (now United). If memory serves, it was around £50, but that was a couple of years ago.

Is there any possibility you could fold a holdall down into you suitcase and take it with you, rather than buying out there? I did that last time, admittedly with the holdall I'd had to buy the time before that! I then put extra clothes, shoes and anything that was more robust in the holdall first and packed things that needed a little more protection in the suitcase surrounded by clothes etc. I put the Christmas decorations and mug I bought in my cabin luggage. Nothing got broken! 😊

(Although my set of 4 glass Disney baubles that survived a transatlantic flight and the handling that entailed, is now a set of 2 as one has broken each of the previous two Christmas seasons! &#128549

I believe it is £65 for an extra case, I am assuming that is one way?

On our last two trips I have taken a suitcase inside a suitcase to allow for an extra one to bring back, although we have had PE return flights so get an extra bag as part of that

Online it's £60 or $90
At the airport it's £65 or $100

These charges are per leg.

We already have a lot of suitcases so instead of buying another one over there for the outward journey I packed my clothes inside a medium sized case and then put that inside a large case.

An extra bag for the return journey only without needing to buy a new case!

Rather than a suitcase why not buy a large nylon bag, ours is huge got it from a luggage place by outdoor world. Way better than extra suitcase fits in my suitcase on way out too. Why not look at what you are taking and then take lots out! I bet you will not wear it all. Shoes buy them out there=more luggage space.

I thought buying online beforehand was cheaper for extra luggage ✌🏼️

we have in the past flown out with 2 cases ,one with a smaller one inside, between the 3 of us

and travelled back with the 3 bulging bags

one year went a bit daft & ending up paying excess charges more than we saved on $$ on all the stuff we bought :-)

There are 4 of us, so we travel with 4 half empty cases.
