Thefts at All Star Sports

Good Morning.
Yesterday we heard reports of a family that had their stolen belongings inside the apartment of the All Star Sports Resort.
The family went to the Epcot and when they returned later in the day, the room was trashed and all the invaders had stolen U.S. dollars, passports, clothes and electronics.
I confess that I was shocked by the news, I thought that the disney hotels were extremely safe.
Anyone know of more cases of theft?

What a shame, its awful that people can ruin someones holiday.
Sadly it happens all around the world and Disney World is no exception. I wonder why they did not use the safe?
Tourists are a thief's favourite target; lots of money usually, iPads, cameras, phones.

This isn't a good read especially as we are stopping at all star sports next month. I feel really sorry for the family affected but I really hope it was an isolated incident. Surely stuff like that apart from the clothes would've been in the safe?

the safes are very small at disney about 4cm deep and about 20cmx20cm square - enough room in there to keep money, docs and 2 tablets but nothing else. Lots of people choose not to use the safes though for some reason and leave their posessions strewn around - passed several rooms with curtains and blinds wide open and laptops, camera, money etc visible on the beds

The safes may be small but you can get a lot in if you pack it right

The villa next to ours was broken into on Sunday afternoon...we had the Sheriff knock on our door at 9-45pm asking us if we had seen anything.

I didnt answer the door at first - would you after the hours of darkness?! and the Sheriff seemed quite annoyed that we did not answer the door... it was only when they came poking round the back pool area with a torch that I shouted through the window!

This is not the first time we have stayed in villas as heard of incidents of this nature... once stayed on Highlands Reserve and found out from the Sheriff who was patrolling the area that our villa had been broken into the previous week...

Motto of the story... be careful with your valuables, it can happen anywhere...and it appears to be happening more and more at the moment.

That's enough room for me to store our passports, money and my iPad mini and travel docs. . . . If a safe is there why not use it? Especially for essentials and common sense items.
Only thing that won't fit is OHs new camera but I think that will be with him all the time anyway. We will make sure nothing is visible in our room that is of value. . . Stuff like this worries me but hopefully a big of common sense and we will be okay fingers crossed.

It is good to remember that anyone can go into any Disney resort, whether they are staying onsite or not.

If you use the car park you will be asked why you are coming, but if you use WDW transport, anyone can visit without being challenged (except they can't use the pool).

I would like to think people cannot get to the rooms unless they are staying there, but I can't see how you would stop someone.

Will certainly be using the safe.

I wasn't aware of this, that's not good.
We definately will be using our safe and not leaving anything of value on view for anyone to see walking past our room.

Do you mean inches rather than cms? Just wondering as you say you can get a tablet in it and am Ipad is 10 inches (25cm).
