Yes it's easy but you may have to pay first then fill. They'll give you change if you don't use the full amount. It's no hassle at all really.

Just remembr to push the lever up when you have the nozzle off the pump. Save the call over the tannoy for the attendant.

I'm pretty sure with Alamo, you have to accept the prepaid fuel option, in which case you return the car with an empty tank.

Catandtrees, we've used Dollar plenty of times without any problems. In fact, I prefer Dollar to Alamo, who we used this year. We've booked with Dollar again for next year.

I'd agree that most Alamo bookings require you to pre-pay for a tank of gas.
The good news is they charge about near local pump prices.
Currently they'll charge you $2.65 a gallon, Hess at DTD is $2.61.

You can find some info on filling up in the Dibb wiki guide to driving in the USA.

You have probably paid OTT for getting the car with FC in the first place though, as for cost you should try hiring a car in Europe, we had a short break in Spain earlier this year, car hire was extortionate compared to the US price we paid in the summer.
