Hertz Gold Membership
Hi, yesterday I emailed Hertz to check that as a Gold Member my OH could get me added as an additional driver for free. I have just got a phone call from Hertz in the U .S and she told me that because we are from Europe the spouse as a free second driver does not apply and so I wouldn't be covered! Luckily, and thanks to Jakey, I also booked with the AA membership card and told her this. She said that this was O.K and with the AA I am covered, entered this on to our booking and said that all I have to do now is when we collect the car to go to the gold desk and give them my driving licence details.
Glad I emailed now to check this and just a warning to anyone else who thinks that their spouse may be covered as a Gold member. Carolynne

Both of us were covered last year when we used Hertz and we are Gold members.

I also ask Hertz the question about the free spouse in the US.
I got this rather ambiguous reply. "Thank you for your recent inquiry. I appreciate the opportunity to review your concerns. I would like to advise you that additional driver is free of charge for spouses of Gold card holders in USA and New Zealand. When renting in other countries additional driver fee applies. Thank you again for contacting us and we look forward to serving you in the future." I am assuming a 'no' to the spouse. If the second paragraph had been worded so.. "I would like to advise you that additional driver is free of charge for spouses of Gold card holders RESIDENT in USA and New Zealand. When renting A CAR IN THE USA FROM other countries the additional driver fee applies." It might have been clearer. |

Thanks for the heads up on that. We are hoping to use the free spouse option. We booked with the AA code too and we are AA members so will make sure we flash the membership card.
