Taking medicine on flight
Does anyone know if you are allowed to take bottles of medicine on flight to USA (in hand luggage), even if bottle is bigger than 100ml?
Thanks. |

I had to do that awhile back. I had a note from my doctor though which surely helped and I contacted the airlines/airport. So perhaps do that.
Good luck. |

This is an extract from the Directgov website about Air travel handbaggage rules:
"Essential medicines, including inhalers and liquid dietary foodstuffs You are allowed to carry essential medicines of more than 100ml in your hand baggage, but you will need: •prior approval from the airline and departure airport •supporting documentation from a relevant qualified medical professional (eg a letter from your doctor or prescription) Remember to take only what you need for your journey. Extra supplies and larger containers of medicine can go in your hold baggage." So, I suggest you contact your airline and explain your situation and see whet they say. |

I always ask our GP to prescribe the smaller bottles of meds (under 100ml) if we are taking liquid meds with us and it's never been a problem - saves any hassle at the airport. I suppose that depends on whether it is possible to get your specific meds in smaller amounts, but you could always ask

Last year we went before our ds kidney transplant and he was on alot of meds, we took a cool bag of meds onto the plane and had all of the meds put into smaller bottles with just enough quantity to get us through the flight, all under 100mls, however, ds had food supplement drinks that came in 200ml cartons and they couldn't be opened and reduced, we had a few of them in the bag too. We had a letter with us from the GP listing all of ds essential meds that we had to take onboard and we contacted the airline beforehand to explain ds medical needs etc and we had no problems. I think as long as you have the correct documentation, all of the meds are clearly labled and you have contacted the airline beforehand and got clearance you shouldn't have any difficulty. Good luck
