I ordered the sd cards but then opted to just rent from car hire company. I know its dead money but my tomtom is so temperamental and all the stuff about poi and re establishing satelliets was just too much

Do you already have TomTOm on your PDA along with GPS on it? If so, I think they go into the TTN6 (depending upon version) directory on your Memory Card.

Best advice when installing maps on any TT, is to ALWAYS do a full backup to your PC beforehand. If you don't have enough room on your TT for both GB and US, I presume you could do a full backup before removing GB and adding US - when you are back off hols, just restore the backup.

I had murders getting my Tomtom maps but got their eventually. I had to download it to a file on my laptop, then download it to a new SD card.

A pain but well worth it in the end.

Used my tomtom one (the original) in Orlando, Tampa, San Francisco, San Jose and looking forward to New Jersey and New York this year. It's been awesome and well worth the money, no problems either.

Thanks for that, good to know there is someone else here with TomTom One ver 3 if I get stuck. I got it as an Xmas pressie from my parents and I bought the US maps online in Jan when they were half price. (mine has 1GB memory as it's Ireland/UK/Western Europe). I had used my brothers TT One ver 2 last year in UK & France & it was fabulous, but the version 3 is not as good (cheaper though), no SD card & no itinerary planning & no enclosed CD with TomTom Home.

My biggest problem is that I don't have broadband and I don't have a laptop . To download TomTom Home I had to bring in my PC box to my brothers house to use his broadband , that still took quite a while & I needed to back up the maps I have so I have yet to return to his house, borrow his broadband again and actually download the maps I purchased in Jan. How long did the US maps take to download? I've bought the full US maps so presumably it will take 4 times as long.

I was sat for nearly 2 hours trying to "find" where my map was, thought I was going potty!

Me and technology just don't mix!

First time I saw someone going to New Jersey for 2 weeks. Hopefully you'll spend it all in NY.

Yeah just staying in a Marriot 30mins by train from NYC.
Lots cheaper than staying in NYC also going to Atlantic City and Niagara Falls.

Is it the Marriott in Jersey City next to the Holland Tunnel?

Which casino will you be visiting?

I have jsut had murders trying to do download maps for my Tom Tom Go 300, my advice and I know alot of people wont is ring the Tom Tom helpline and they will either go through it with you or send you an email with step by step guides of how to do it. My problem was on the older Tom Tom units you need to update the software on the unit before laoding tom tom home ? Being a totally stupid with computers found this very confusing.

Finally got it sorted and ready to roll.
