You can take a bag weighing up to 32Kg in economy with VA.
Any bag that exceeds the 23Kg allowance will be charged £35, $70. Full info on the VA site. |

We found that where one case is LESS than 1kg over if the other cases are all well under they will let it go rather than make you repack but they do stress this is only because it is only very slightly overweight and there is plenty of slack in the others (this happened to us and others at DTD check in last year).

We did DTD check-in last month and the family behind us were 1kg over and were made to open their cases and repack them! The woman was not impressed at having to re-arrange everything infront of others and the man was ranting and raving about how he was supposed to know how much 1kg was!

Yes, I've seen people made to repack their cases too at DTD, although my brother in law was 1KG over and they never said anything, just took his case.
His wifes case must have been under, they must assess each family with their combined cases, although anyone more than a teensy bit over should expect to be pulled. I panicked with my case and bought a small one from a flea market for around $15 and filled that one to even out the weight, as I would rather pay that than fret about my one case going over.
