Looking for Mickey
|
I think we'll play it by ear on the day. DD's are grown up so can manage their own luggage. It just means we'll have 3 suitcases between the two of us. If we were also pushing the wheelchair then it would be more of a problem. As DD's are older, I can always leave them with mum to retrieve the luggage from the second carousel, while DH and I sort the hire car.
Thanks for the help.

This post has been helpful! My friend will be using special assistance when we arrive in MCO. She's has a medical condition which affects her joints, so is anticipating after being sat for so long she will struggle standing in the immigration queue. However she can walk perfectly fine. Any suggestions of what to do in this case? I don't think I would go with her on the shuttle as I am not a fan of lifts (we are going to be a great pair!) - presumably I would be ok to take both our bags on the monorail and meet her over there? (We are only going for a week so I should be able to manage both bags). I would prefer to avoid the second bag drop if at all possible. For those who have then special assistance people at the other terminal, where exactly do you meet them?
I honestly think she will be fine with the monorail though, which is the frustrating thing. |

Hiya Rachel - assuming you've set up Special Assistance with the airline, so this is what happens. A wheelchair will be waiting outside the aircraft doors for her... the pusher will take you and her to the special assistance desk, now, they may want to leave you at the desk at this point, so either be prepared to push her yourself or ask if they would be so kind as to wait or return. Collect bags, go through customs where you head up the escalator with the bags. The pusher will take your friend up in the elevator and meet you at the top, then onward to the monorail. After the monorail you can either ask if they'll assist you to your car or place the bags on your friends lap/between her feet on the wheelchair and push her yourself. If she's okay to walk around reasonably well at this point you could head off to the down elevator for the car hire/garage and onward from there. Perhaps tip the pusher $10, or so, if he assists you to the car.

If you put medical assistance in place, you get help both ends, here in Manchester, I asked for help from the carpark to T2, than help to get to the aircraft first on last off both ends, you go to the line at immigration in Orlando for medical assistance, whike were going through an airport worker gets our cases off the carousel,
Next what happened in June as I was in my wheelchair, the cases were taken up the stairs to the monorail, the worker took me up in the lift, once off the monorail as I'd done OLCI and pass the counter he took us straight to Alamo for our car, you can ask for as much or little help as you need it helped us immensely in June as it was just me and DH so I asked for alot of help. |
