We always stay at the Sheraton New York Towers now, Great central position for Central park, Times Sq etc. Subway right outside. Great deals can be found on BA sales times

We have just used the Holiday Inn Express Madison Square Garden (mainly as I had reward points) but its a nice clean hotel, centrally located next to Penn Station.

The first time we went to NYC we stayed at Hilton Garden Inn Times Square. Its location was excellent and the rooms were big by NY standards. It wasn't on Times Sq itself it was one street from TS but you had the Gershwin Theater just round the corner, there is a supermarket near by and some other restaurants close by.

This year we stayed at Andaz 5th Avenue and we absolutely loved this hotel that I would look to stay here again if lucky enough to return for a 3rd time. It was a bit pricier but we got a good deal on it with lastminute.com.

We really preferred the location, on 5th Ave, directly across from the New York Public Library and a metro stop close by. Also within walking distance for the main attractions too. We had a loft room and it was nicely laid out and quite big for a New York hotel room. Free wine upon check in and in the evening for guests too, a free mini bar (excludes alcohol items) and you also get a little leaving gift too (nothing too exciting mind you but its a nice touch)

We've just got back from the States, 5 nights of that spent at the Archer Hotel in NY. Really nice hotel, very modern inside and comfy beds. The rooms are small, had a look after we left and I think it was 210sq feet, which is small but a lot of New York hotels are.

Location wise it couldn't have been better, W 38th St about 5 mins from Empire State building and close to TOTR, Grand Central etc not far from Times Square either. I'd hate to stay on Times Square as I didn't like it at all, tacky, crowded, dirty, swarming with people not my idea of somewhere I'd want to stay.

Oh, and the rooftop bar has a perfect unobstructed view of the Empire State building, amazing all lit up at night

Distrikt Hotel.
It's central, reasonably priced and the rooms are good size.
Staff were friendly and welcoming.

The Marriott East side on Lexington Avenue, very close to Grand Central Station, 5 mins walk to Fifth Avenue and 10 minutes walk to Times Square. Situated in Mid Town also a couple of minutes walk from Radio City.

We stayed at the doubletree by Hilton metropolitan on Lexington avenue last week. Wanted New Yorker but too expensive but so glad we chose this double tree. A subway opposite, 10 mins from 5th avenue, lots off coffee shops nearby and great customer service and large recently refurbished bedroom. Would definitely stay there again
