Where next to relax?
We are going to Florida for our first ever trip next summer.
We don't want to spend the whole time in Orlando and want to spend some days relaxing on the beach and perhaps seeing some scenery and wildlife. We like good food and restaurants, and definitely want a beach view. So where would you go for 5-7 nights. Kids will be 11,9,7 many thanks |

Anna Maria Island on the Gulf Coast is just over 2 hours drive from Orlando and if you search this forum for "AMI" you will see hundreds of recommendations.
We've been a few times for day trips and never stayed over but dozens of Dibbers have. Not sure about things for kids to do though (even our grand children are older that that ) Benidorm it certainly aint annamariaislandchamber/ This was last November - about 80 degrees Mick

Very chilled and laid back no an abundance of restaurants but enough or you can always drive inland to Bradenton or down to Sarasota. We always have a few days down on the beaches even on our October/November stays. We tend to go down for a couple of days staying over and back again later in the holiday. Very much an up early hit the beach early to bed after dinner kind of place. We must like it been visiting fir quarter of a century.

If you want scenery and wildlife you either need to go down to the Keys or stay on the Atlantic coast anywhere from St Augustine to New Smyrna Beach.
Anna Maria is a lovely location, although less so than 10 years ago, but is geared more towards the geriatric visitor. |

We're considering Hollywood, it's just lower than Fort Lauderdale and a quieter resort. The beach and boardwalk that runs for a couple of miles look lovely and there's plenty of bars, restaurants, shops and entertainment along it..
There's lots of trips running from there too, plenty of wildlife stuff, air boat rides, and boat trips etc. I believe you can even get a water taxi up to Fort Lauderdale for a potter round there too.. We've looked at staying at The Manta-Ray Inn there, it comes highly recommended and has one and two bedroom apartments which is handy for the extra space, reasonable prices too..
