I take alcohol in hold luggage often. I wrap it in a towel and then a plastic bag, then put it in another plastic bag. If I have a box, eg shoe box I will put it in there, if not just wrap in another towel.

I returned last Wednesday - two hold cases, one containing a 1.75 litre bottle of Southern Comfort and the other a 1.75 litre of Cafe Lolita (same as Kahlua only a lot, lot cheaper) for our coffee! It's like a ritual with us for bringing back the same booze! We've had our cases checked many times by the US security and they never remove the booze!

Buy some large zippy food bags (Ziploc or Hefty, for example), ones that are big enough for the bottle to fit in. Zip the bag closed then wrap in a towel. We brought 3 bottles of wine from Lakeridge Winery home in 2011 and packed them like this in our cases. They all made it home safely

I would unscrew the lid and put cling film over , replace lid and put the bottle in a carrier bag then wrap in a towel , I would also pack shoes around the bottle to protect the bottle from getting too squashed .
