California & Las Vegas Road Trip Aug/Sep 15! Day 13 – Scoot City & Shopping
Index
Previous Day Wednesday 9th September 2015 Our pick up for Scoot City was at 7:30, so we were up around 6:30 got ready and headed down. We got some iced coffees from Starbucks to wake ourselves up while we were waiting. A mini bus picked us from our hotel reception and we were the last pick up, so we then headed straight to where the scooters are stored. There were two other couples on the mini bus with us, who were both American so when we arrived at the Scooters the tour guide suggested we take the scooter with the Union Jack. Not long after another bus arrived with a group of people who were also from the UK. Before leaving we were given some safety instructions and told how to work the scooter, which seemed easy enough. We began our drive out to the canyon at about 8:15; Mark drove this part as I didn’t fancy driving on the roads. There were about 8 scooters in total, with an instructor at the front and one at the back trying to keep us all together. The first stop was the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Centre. Some lovely views from here and a nice little gift shop too. We had some bottles of water put in our scooters when we got back to them, which were definitely needed. It was very hot already but much better when you’re on the move in the Scooter. Soon enough we were off again, with Mark driving to the next stop. I much preferred being in the scooter than stopping, they’re so much fun and you still get to enjoy the views along the way. During our next stop we got to walk down into the red rocks. We didn’t go too far, it was too hot to be hiking. I drove to the next stop, which was gradually up hill. I was a bit nervous to drive at first but I didn’t need to be, they’re really easy to manoeuvre. Our little scooter struggled to keep up with the one in front, clearly ours wasn’t as powerful. There are some gorgeous views to be seen from this next stop. Mark drove the rest of the way back. A lot of it was downhill, which was fun as we managed to pick up a lot of speed. We had one more stop before heading back to the scooter compound. This was by far one of the best things we done this holiday, I’d highly recommend it and it’s definitely worth the money. We were dropped off back at our hotel at 11:15 and went back to the room, to clean all the dust off ourselves. We decided to get the car and drive to Fashion Show Mall, opposite The Wynn. We were fairly hungry by this point so headed to the food court in the mall first. I’d heard lots of good things about Panda Express, so we decided on this as it would be quick and easy. We got a bowl each, both with orange chicken and fried rice and a drink. It was really filling and tasty, glad we only went for a bowl as we wouldn’t have been able to eat anymore. Total cost, $19.19. We had a little look round the mall but couldn't see much in here. Mark picked up some things from Abercrombie in the sale. From here we walked over to The Wynn to have a look around. It’s a lovely, modern hotel; just past the casino is especially nicely decorated. Next, we headed back to the car and drove up to the North Premium Outlets. We really enjoyed walking around here. I found some great things in the J.Crew outlet, in the sale. Also saw some nice things in Kate Spade but resisted. After a while, we drove back to the hotel and dropped the car and our shopping off in the room. We had a bit of time before we wanted to leave for dinner, so walked through the MGM, to the strip and on to M&M world just outside. I picked up 2 butterfly shaped tins filled with multi-coloured M&M’s for my two nieces, $20. I’d wanted to have a look in Coca-Cola world too but it was closed at this point. Instead, we went back to the room and got ready for dinner, leaving around 19:00. We decided on the Rainforest Cafe for dinner, it was just across the road from our hotel and wasn't far from The Axis, for the Britney Spears concert later on. I'd never been to one either and had wanted to go. I went for a Guacamole Burger with a strawberry lemonade and Mark had a BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with a regular lemonade. Both were really good, I absolutely loved the guacomole but the portion size was huge, I barely managed half. Total cost was $44.28, plus tip. After dinner, we headed straight to The Axis, which was easier to find than I thought. It's pretty much in the centre of the Miracle Mile Shops. Before heading inside we got a drink each. Mark got a beer and I wanted to get a frozen Strawberry Daiquiri but the machine wasn't working, so I went with a frozen Pino Colada, which wasn't that great. I didn't note down the cost, but I know it was a lot more expensive than the drinks yesterday at Cirque du Soleil. We headed into the theater and tooks our seats, which were in the middle of the row, but quite far back. When everyone was sitting I could see very well but I’m quite short so when everybody stood up I struggled to see. We also had quite a tall couple sitting 2 rows in front, who both had their phones up in the air pretty much throughout the entire show. This was really annoying, they kept blocking my view. Everybody likes to take a few photos/video but you don’t need to film the entire show. Right, moan over! Other than that we really enjoyed the show. It lasted about an hour and a half and was a lot of fun. Yes, she does mime the whole thing and she was late coming on but she puts on a really good show. Photos are a bit rubbish, from my phone. The show was finished around 22:45 then we took a walk over to The Cosmopolitan hotel. I’d planned on getting a drink in the Chandelier bar, which is really lovely but it was so busy. There was nowhere to sit and we didn’t fancy anymore standing after the show so we took a slow walk back to the MGM, enjoying seeing everywhere lit up at night. Next: Day 14 - Exploring the Las Vegas Strip
