Just had a phone call from DDs school.....

......to confirm she has been tested and has officially been diagnosed with Dyscalculia!
She will be going into her last year at primary school after the summer, and i have been fighting for this diagnosis since her second year!!
She has absolutely no concept of space, time or numbers, but the school have always panned me off with "shes not the worst in the class!"

So, upshot is, after Summer, she will be getting one to one remedial (do they still call it that??) teaching at last!!
Now my question..... does anyone else have a child with this and can you recommend any ways which i can help, good websites etc.?

At the moment im just so happy that my 5 year fight has not been in vain!! (i waited 12 years for eldest DDs ADHD dx!!)

Its called Special Needs education. Its an area the Local Goverment (especially in Maidstone) are reducing funding for. It really makes me cross!

As i said, ive waited years for this (and the ADHD) dx. Funny thing is, nothing was done until a few weeks ago when i went across to the school and told them i wasnt looking for a record of needs (statement), just for some help in the right direction.
BANG..... 3 weeks later we have the diagnosis....... strange huh!!

Glad you have got somewhere at last. Our DS also has Dyscalculia tied in with his multiple disabilities. For him working with concrete materials as opposed to abstract concepts helps. He uses a number line to help him visualise numbers and their relationships. Counting money and working out change is a useful tool for number work. Looking at maps and a globe and playing with lots of different construction toys have helped him get to grips with spatial relationships.
I hope your DD gets the help she needs, but without a Record of Needs the LEA have no duty to provide any help at all.
Have a look here for some ideas.
