California dreaming, screaming and still beaming! :) Day 4

Woke at 7ish and put the telly on for the news. Uh-oh! Big fire in Yosemite on Highway 140. This was the route that we were going to use tomorrow to get to Cedar Lodge in El Portal. Decided to wait until the afternoon and decide what to do.

Kids didn't bother with breakfast as they wanted some more kip as they were kept awake by my snoring! The 70s party people were very subdued this morning!

We all then went on a tour on a trolley and went passed a lot of the places where we'd walked yesterday! Apparently we walked through Little Italy and some of the streets featured in The Wedding Planner and Princess Diaries! There are many homeless people in San Francisco and one shouted out to DS that he liked his shirt! DS laughed and the man shouted that he liked DS's smile!

We ended up at Pier 39 and went and had a look at the Sealions. Most of them had gone off to mate - but there were still a few about.







We had a nice lunch at the Sealion Cafe overlooking the sealions and then went back on the hotel to check on the fire. Apparently the power into the park has been cut now so I phoned the hotel. They were hoping the power to be back on soon and I was asked to ring in the morning. In the meantime I asked at the front desk for and Holiday Inns in the area and one in Fresno was recommended. I had a look on tripadvisor and it seemed ok.

DH and DS went off to Bike the Bridge. DD and I chickened out and went to Ghirardelli Square. I thought this was a bit disappointing. There wasn't much there really apart from 2 wine tasting shops, a dog clothes shop, good card shop, cup cake shop - only sold cup cakes! - and of course the Ghirardelli shop and cafe. We couldn't get near the shop because of the queues and had to go up the hill a bit for the takeaway. We had lovely hot fudge sundaes!

DH and DS came back and had really enjoyed their bike ride although it had been foggy on the bridge and beautiful in Sausalito.

We went for a meal in Ciopino's and headed back to the hotel as we were tired, after... guess what? Another visit to Walgreen's for after sun as DH had burnt his scalp and face!

We plan to ride Golden Gate Bridge next year, we're really looking forward to this. Another great report.
