West coast trip 2009 - Part 3

Up nice and early and take the complimentary breakfast at the hotel, it takes 40 mins to walk to the required pier, luckily we left just enough time, board the ferry and over to Alcatraz, this tour was worth every cent, it was really good, especially the audo tour.
We had a good day bright and sunny, I can only imagine how cold this tour would be if the fog came in.
The island is getting busy so we head back to the mainland.
Next we decide on a city tour, we get a open top bus tour 48 Hrs hop on off with 20 stops for $35 each, child free. We use this to get to China town were we stop for a wander and take luch at the Imperial Palace, there are loads of locals there and it was particularly good, we ate a variety of dim sum's for the princely sum of $14.
Pick up a few bits and pieces and catch the next bus to complete the tour, by now the fog had started to come in, the trip over the GG bridge was freezing, I mean bitterly cold.
We thaw out by the end of the trip and get back to Fishermans wharf, we take dinner at the market stalls, I take the clam cowder in sourdough bowl, fries, beer amd a coke for £14. The chowder was nice. DD & DW dont eat seafood so take a hot dog from a street seller.
Then back to the hotel.

A good and busy day. Glad you had the sun for Alcatraz. My DD loves the clam chowder.

We've booked Alcatraz and this is one of the things that we're mostly looking forward to, like you we're going in the morning as we want to see it in the daylight. Not sure about what other tours yet, I think we may leave it till we get there and decide. The Imperial Palace sounds good, I will have to take a note of it. Would you recommend the place?
