West Coast & The Deserts, Day 7 - Las Vegas

Day 7 ~ Las Vegas ~ Last full day
Saturday 10th October 2009

Tracy (33) - Planner and lover of souvenir shops!
Iain (40) - Driver and avoider of souvenir shops!

We had a lie in today until 8.00am! We got ready and were out at 9.10am heading towards Ethel M’s Chocolate Factory as we couldn’t find it the previous day, we followed the leaflet today and found it no problem!

They have an amazing collection of cactus here and that’s the best thing about Ethel M’s, the chocolate tour is free but wasn’t much of a tour…I would describe it as a glimpse. The chocolate is ridiculously expensive aswell, so we had our free sample and a quick look in the M&M’s shop and headed back into Vegas.

I love this photograph! (the above one I mean!)

We stopped at a Target on the way back, that we had spotted earlier. We bought a selection of cereal bars, protein bars and drinks and a tub of protein powder for Iain, then he could mix some drinks. We had brought lots of cereal bars out with us to eat for breakfasts and as snacks, as a healthier option and stocks were dwindling now.

I think this truck was mostly held together by duct tape! There are some wrecks on American roads.

Afterwards we headed back to the chapel again to collect our wedding photos, they made a mistake as some were missing so I needed to go back in and collect them. Iain wasn’t liking how we had to keep calling back at the chapel and I couldn’t blame him as it was taking time out of our busy schedule, but still better than a church wedding!

We put more gas in the car at a nearby station, as we wanted to keep it constantly topped up. It only took $14.37. This car was a bit of a guzzler, but we didn’t regret choosing the Ford Explorer due to all of the room and it was so comfy. We drove to Freemont Street and it was a shame that we didn’t see it lit up at night, but we didn’t want to miss it at all. We had a chicken select meal between us from Mc Donald’s here and a caramel sundae each, I don’t have the receipt so can’t say how much. I also bought some Las Vegas from the ABC Store here as gifts and more postcards, calendars were $2.49 each here and 3 for 2. I guess they were cheap as they had ABC Store adverts plastered inside!

We played some slots in one of the casino’s and I collected my free beads and had a couple of beers whilst playing. We also spotted the Church Street Station train here, that used to be in Florida. We headed back to the hotel next via the Hard Rock Hotel, we didn’t go inside I just took some photos whilst driving past. Iain wanted some pictures of the guitar, as this was part of his tattoo.

Back at the hotel we packed our cases up as we were heading on to Lake Powell the next morning. We rested for a while and then headed over to the Bellagio to watch the fountains and film them and had our last walk down the Strip. It was crazily busy on a Saturday night, but we were a little sad to leave and eager to carry on with our trip at the same time.

The following photographs were taken by me, whilst Iain was driving. We have a lot of driving photos, as I usually just snap away!

We decided to eat at Denny’s and this was our first ever time eating here, as we had never made it to one in Florida in all of our 6 visits there. We both ordered a cherry cherry limeade and Iain had the Super Grand Slamwich, which came with shredded potato and I tried the potatoes and they tasted so good! I had Tilapia Ranchero, which was white fish served with mash and vegetables….mmm those mashed potatoes! I also had a garden salad to start, as I was feeling a need to eat my greens and try to be healthy! We both really enjoyed our food and agreed it was the best meal of the holiday so far and I would recommend the cherry cherry limeades aswell, they were really refreshing and we both had a free refill…infact I think that I had 2 refills!

We headed back to the hotel next for an early night, as we would be setting off early the next morning.

This is the fantastic view of the Bellagio fountains that we had, from our hotel room window. We could hear the music aswell, but the noise didn't bother us when we wanted to sleep.

You really pack a lot into your days Shame Ethel M's seemed a bit of a disappointment for you, although the photo of the two of you there is lovely

You had a fantastic view of the strip and fountains from your room

Loads of fabulous photos well done and especially the ones from the car - i have a very shaky hand without the movement of a car !

With you on the disappointment with Ethel M's very expensive- we did buy a hot chocolate to share as we were very cold, and got lots of xmas wintery cactus scenes photos! And yes its was lovely to see how they should look in the sunshine LOL!

Brilliant reports keep them coming...
