Bucoops Road Trip Honeymoon San Fran Day 2.

Before we came on our honeymoon we was told that the Nike Women’s Marathon was being held on the day we had booked to go on an to Alcatraz Cruise and we was told that a lot of the roads around the terminal will be closed so we had to get there early because they wouldn't accomodate late comers and as we had booked the early bird tour so we set our alarm for 6am, so we could have some breakfast and make our way there with plenty of time to spare.

Across the road from our hotel was Mel's Diner. We decided to stop there for breakkie and it was very nice, we both loved the old fashioned theme and decided to be very American and have pancakes. I had the “Las Vegas” pancakes which were about the size of a casino chip and Dickie had 3 big pancakes. I think he got the better deal as I only had 11 which sounds a lot but where tiny in comparison and not very filling.

Eating our breakfast we went and hailed a cab, we wanted to get as near as possible before having to walk, whilst driving over we found out that the marathon was practically finished as it started at 5am so we was going to be there about an hour early. I was not impressed as the temperature had plummeted and it was cold and grey.

We get dropped off outside as the roads had been opened and we make our way in. We then spent the next hour taking photos and whiling away the time taking photos, generally messing around and chilling on a bench watching the world go by.

Me taking part in the marathon

Dickie at the landing

Finally we were called to start the queue to board, and we were in this queue for ages. I wish we had stayed sitting on the bench because there isn’t any reason to be on first, the seating is all over the boat and whilst we was going over to the island you could just walk around the boat getting some fab pics.

When we got there we were told that we could walk up or get the buggy which Dickie and I decided to do. I have a bad back (hence the trouble with Virgin) and he has a bad knee and we didn’t want to poop ourselves at the beginning of the tour. It was a cute and fast ride up to the top.

Making our way in we got given the mandatory headphones

And we started on one of the best bits of the holiday, it was so interesting, the audio tour was very informative and I would gladly recommend this, in fact I would say this is a must. Here are a few photos we took on the tour and back at the dock.

At the dock

On our way down to the dock it started to drizzle, which is just what you need when you don’t have an umbrella or a waterproof coat lol. We got off at the landing and decided to head towards Pier 39. For a bit of shopping, lunch and seeing the seals.

By now we was both getting very wet so we decided to go not do much shopping but grab lunch and then go a boat trip under the Golden Gate Bridge as Dickie loves all things engineering and wanted to see it from every angle (yes I married a dork). We looked around the piers and settled on Wipeout Bar and Grill. It looked like a beach hut and the take out section was a VW traveler.

Dickie had French fries and I had French fries topped with chili con carne, cheddar cheese sauce and shredded jack and cheddar cheese. It was like something out of Man vs Food, the portion was massive which was good because after my tiny breakkie I was hungry lol.

After lunch we made our way to the Blue and Gold fleet dock for the “Bay Cruise adventure”

and again we queued for ages to board

Once again it was pretty much a free for all once we was on board as like Alcatraz there was seating everywhere. We decided to stand outside so we could get a good view and away we started. We must have got about 5 mins into the trick when the heavens opened and we got soaked. I decided to rush back in but by then the damage was done.

Look at how cold and grey it seems.

We got closer and closer to the bridge and Dickie wanted a picture so like a good wife I did my duties

Before chucking the camera back to him and making my way back into the warmth. Look at the rain on the water.

We literally looped under the bridge and made our way back to port and as if by magic the rain STOPPED.

Getting off at the docks we got a cab to take us to the “Cable car museum”

Now you would be thinking with a cool name like that it would be full of cable cars and informative stories well you would be wrong. It is in fact where the cables that pull the cars and housed.

And apart from 8 massive wheels and 2 old cable car there really insist anything else there, so that was a waste of time and something I would most definitely not recommend.

Realising we was in the middle of nowhere and not a cab in sight we then made our way up to “California Street” so we could ride the cable car down one of the biggest hills in San Francisco.

I was to scared to hang on the side like a monkey but Dickie did.

It was an amazing ride down and fortunately the cable car was empty so we could really appreciate it. We got to the bottom and serendipity was in our favour and there was a cab just pulling in to drop someone off as we got to the end. Jumping in the cab we made our way back to the hotel, we was cold, tired and hungry again as we had been out for about 12 hours by now.

Getting in to the room we rammed up the heating and popped into the pizza place next door to the hotel Amici and it was the best pizza I have ever eaten. We spent the night watching Scooby Doo films, cuddling and messing around on the internet. We was both asleep by 10pm.

It can be soooo cold waiting for the boat for the early bird tour of Alcatraz, we were freezing and were almost tempted to leave, but we stayed and like you really ejoyed the trip.
