Vegas & la sept 2010 day 10

DAY 10 fri

9.10
Carol is still asleep,
Later tonight we are going to a cirque show

In the

Hotel

But first on my way back from getting our breakfast I noticed the pool was closed off for maintenance , no matter we had decided to walk to the Vegas sign today

,
since booking this holiday this was one of the first things on our list of THINGS TO DO IN VEGAS we googled it just to see how far it was from our hotel, we were quite lucky here cause it was just one straight long road ( about a 3mile round trip) we also noticed a mc Donald's just under halfway there so if we needed a cold drink on the way back
10.55 Camera in hand we set off, again it was a bright cloudless HOT day. Started from the back of our hotel up the road past the 24/7 petrol station crossed over the road to the LUXOR we passed a sign saying premium outlets 2mile ahead... We went there earlier in the week & I must say it seemed a lot further than 2 mile away I certainly wouldn't fancy walking it especially in the heat like today

Has we started walking we couldn't see the sign, passed the four seasons hotel (very nice ) .. Up a bit more then we could just see a glimpse of it in the distance kept on walking passed mc d's on the other side
We knew the sign was in the middle of the rd & did wonder how people could get over to take there pictures but you soon realise that there are gaps in the traffic big enough to be able to walk comfortably across to get there also if you are travelling to it by car etc you can actually pull into a little car park at the sign itself.

Upon seeing the sign in the distance it spurred us along but it took ages to get there I don't think it would have been so bad had it not been so HOT !
Finally we crossed over into the middle of the road noticed a few other people there so maybe we could ask someone to take a photo of us both tog but no problem there was a young girl there who I think had set up her little pitch to do exactly that job I asked her how much she charges to take a photo of us with our camera she said " I don't charge anything ,but if you want to tip me that's ok " I want a job like hers she was making a fortune ...

Here's the evidence

We spent a good 20min there lots of people came & went coach loads of tourists all wanting to point at the sign. If you go when its busy you have to strategically position your camera so that you block out other people standing near the sign.. The thing that bothered me was that a group of three young men turned up he set his camera up on a tripod then set about climbing the actual sign for his unique picture along with his mates... All well & good for that special photo but it took him ages & this coach load who only had a short time to stay had to have there images of the sign with him perched upon it ..

Has we started to cross over to the other side to make our way back carol noticed a poker chip laying on the floor it was only a $1 one from the Tropicana hotel this was another thing on our list was to bring home a few real poker chips for our friends but we didn't know if we could actually just purchase them & then walk out of the casino, we were scared some kind of alarm would go off because we were sure you weren't allowed, what if everyone did this there would be no chips left.( later on in the holiday we got some no probs)
walking back we were now on the same side of the road has the airport you could see the runway & more we realised the sound we could hear laying by the pool was coming from the planes hitting there brakes when coming in to land ( don't worry people staying at the desert rose when I say you could hear it, it wasn't that bad, & that's the only thing you do hear apart from the touring helicopters in the daytime to say the hotel is next to the airport virtually)

You pass a lovely little chapel on the way back.. Stopped off at mc Donald's for refreshment in some you could get there new ORANGE milkshake (didn't like it myself but carol did) but they were out , oh dear..
It was quite busy here don't remember if we had anything to eat.

Walked to the nearest bus stop that had the words GOLD on it that was relevant to our ticket. There are plenty of bus stops not all relevant to the ticket you are using ( which became a problem later that day too) one was just pulling up so started to board it when the driver (who you never see cause he is behind a smoked glass partition tells us we cant take drinks onto the bus.. No matter is all gone but the ice anyway.
Ride it until we get to the PARIS hotel.

Went in again straight into the casino bit took more photos

We walked around decided because we went up the stratosphere tower in the daytime we wanted to do the Eifel tower at night(this turned out to be a big mistake because we never ended up going up the Eiffel tower at all ) gutted..
Made our way through into BALLYS from PARIS went to the food halls & shops bought some ETHEL M'S CHOCOLATE yummy, & a STOMBOLI PEPPERONI PIZZA
Now its basically a rolled up pizza & the picture makes it look dry but I can assure you it was delicious..

It came with some kind of sauce but we didn't eat it,& shared it has usual not always hungry enough to have one each its not that we are cheapskates)

Came out at BALLYS now we thought the bus stop outside of Bellagio was still out of action so walked up to fashion show shops which was another long walk caught the bus ok noticed has the bus was approaching the Bellagio stop that it actually pulled into the stop ****** god had we known that last night and earlier today it would have saved us a lot of shoe leather.. Moan over sorry

Got off at Excalibur & called at the 24/7 store for some more Ben & jerry's ice cream to have back in our room where we just chilled out till it was time for the show.

We left it a little late & had to rush over to the new York hotel, went straight to the box office but you needed some identification & the tickets carol had bought them in her name but the only identification we had was my driving licence so we risked it , he looked up at us but didn't question it
We had seats upstairs to the right of the stage sorry there was no photos allowed. Some of the stars of the show was doing a bit of warm up with the crowd (this is where we were glad we was sat upstairs

They were really funny I enjoyed this part of the show the most. It was different we both really enjoyed it would loved to have seen another cirque show but didn't get the chance bought a programme from the gift shop $15.

We wondered around the shops decided to take a sandwich back to the hotel, cant remember the name of the shop but we got a pastrami on rye it was HUGE too much meat on it..

It was so yummy

Thats something else thats all out of sinc & thats your meal times its now 11.20 & wouldn't dream of eating at that time of night back home. Here are just a few more random photos taken today

It was time to call it a night

Hi jo
Thanks for your nice comments
see your staying at the Venetian, this hotel certainly has the WOW factor I remember it was the most spectacular around sun set,

I'm sure you'll have a great time, look forwards to reading your trip report when you get back.

Loving all your photos - am picking up loads of tips from your report!

How far from your hotel was the Walgreens you visited? Is it far from the Tropicana? I love Walgreens and plan on buying all my toiletries when I get out there!

HI Astrid
Thanks for your nice coments
The nearest walgreens to you is on the same side has the M & M Store. just past Denny's. I would say its about a good 12min walk from the Tropicana.
nearer on the other side of the street is a CVS Pharmacy store very similar to a walgreens just past the Monte Carlo Hotel
