I think some people are misunderstanding here. The cover that we buy from insurance4carhire does in fact cover keys, windows, etc. that the regular insurance from car hires do NOT include...
Not everyone buys it and hey thats ok but after a nasty experience in Spain...we never rent a car anywhere in the world without this cover. We have never had to file a claim in the US as of yet but who is to say we will always be so lucky? I surely don't want to have to pay huge fees because a stone may hit and crack the windsheild one day or someone snatches our keys.

Thanks everyone. Enhanced Roadside was the one I was looking at, they quoted me $20 for the 9 days we are there, I will also take a look at the others thanks.
Uhh pardon me! Yes, they do! in my policy it states: "Key cover: Covers up to maximum £500 for replacing lost or stolen key for rental vehicle, including replacement locks and locksmith charges"
So YES..they do cover it!
If thats the case then why do they do this ( from Alamo web site ). Roadside Plus
KEY REPLACEMENT - Lost keys? No worries, we will send replacement keys or a locksmith.
FLAT TIRE - If the vehicle's spare tire is inflated and serviceable, it will be installed to replace a flat tire. If no inflated spare is available, the vehicle will be towed in accordance with the towing provision.
TOWING - If the vehicle is rendered inoperable (unrelated to an accident) towing charges will be covered at no additional charge.
JUMP START - A battery boost will be provided in an attempt to start the vehicle.
LOCKOUT SERVICE - If the keys are locked inside the vehicle, service will be sent to gain entrance.
FUEL DELIVERY* - A limited supply of gasoline will be delivered to the vehicle to enable you to reach the nearest open service station.
*Up to three gallons or equivalent liters.
Available at all locations in the 50 United States and Canada. Roadside Plus is void and of no effect if, at the time of the incident necessitating roadside assistance, You (or any Authorized Driver) were in violation of the rental agreement, including, without limitation, the Prohibited Uses and Violations set forth therein. In such cases, roadside assistance will be available, but standard charges may apply.
None of the rental cars I have had ( Dollar and Alamo) in the past few years have covered the above as standard. So I guess if I didnt take out the extra cover I would be liable if any of the above happened.
When DH picked our car from Sanford this year (booked with Avis), although he declined all extras, i checked the invoice & we had been charged $100 extra for 'RSN'. Its cover for all things mentioned, so we went To the LBV office & had it removed. I told the guy on the desk we didnt want it & he shouldnt have 'just' added it (it was very sneaky as all the other things had 'declined' next to them, this didnt have anything & the amount was printed underneath were DH had signed). Check you paperwork very carefully, especially the 'total amount due'.

Still think this extra breakdown cover that the car rentals charge is a bit of a con.
OK, so you have a flat tyre. Not being funny but if the spare either isnt there or not inflated its not my fault. Rental company WILL be paying to recover me since the vehicle has been supplied faulty.
Locked keys, wrong fuel, flat battery (ONLY if your fault) fair enough I guess.
If battery is flat and you didnt leave lights on then again they're problem not mine. (Bearing in mind most parks will have a security van driving around that will give you a jump start).
Location: Second star to the right and straight on till morning
Couldn't agree more. Had a flat, swapped it for emergency spare and went directly to hire car company offices and swapped car over. Nothing further said or charged.
Never have and never will take the extra cover.

Dave I'm not sure what you are saying here...What I mean by it's included is that all those things mentioned are included in MY policy not the car hires! We buy an annual policy (as I have said) to cover those things mentioned because we rent a car a few times a year! Having this policy is cheaper than keep having to buy the "extra cover" at the desk for our piece of mind.

AAh, sorry misunderstood you. I thought you were saying your rental agreement covered all this.
