Mickeyetta’s Californian Adventure – Day 12, 02 Oct 2012. Las Vegas – North on the strip.
Mickeyetta’s Californian Adventure – Day 12, 02 Oct 2012. Las Vegas – North on the strip.
Both of us slept very fitfully…. We found it very difficult to sleep in this room. Either it was the aircon, or the nosebleed inducing 66th floor, but even with water at the side of the bed both of us had very dry throats and noses! This funnily enough cleared at our next hotel… so definitely one or the other. As prearranged we met Roonlou in the lift lobby at half nine, and worked out what we wanted for breakfast. Both Si and I fancied something a little lighter today…. And its no mean feat to find a light breakfast in Las Vegas! So it was decided to hit up Starbucks across the road in Planet Hollywood. Si and I split some fruit and cinnabun with a coffee and a tea, whilst roonlou had coffees, fruit and muffins. Suitably refreshed we walked it off with a lap of the miracle mile shops. Si and I were slowly easing into the Las Vegas vibe, so we were brave and let our chums fully immerse us into the lifestyle today, and so we headed off on an epic lap of all the hotels to the north of the Cosmo, on the western side of the Strip. First stop the Bellagio! We saw the autumnal decorations in the conservatory, there was even a talking tree! We certainly were not in Kansas anymore! On into the casino floor, where our chums indulged in their favourite Craps game… Si and I wandered off and found a roulette table. It was half real half computerized. The wheel was real with a real ball, and then you placed your bets on a computer screen, so you didn’t have to fight with other patrons round a real table. Anyhow at this point I remembered Ben that we got from the cash point the other night (a $100 bill). So we figured, put Ben in the machine, waste $20 and get some change! So Si put a bet on the corners of four numbers and it only came up!. So we cashed out, and put the ticket back in the ATM, and we got Ben back and some other smaller bills as well! And so Ben became our lucky charm! Second stop Cesar’s Palace. Once inside Roonlou set up on another Craps table, and we head off in search of another half n half roulette table. We didn’t find a table, but we did find the rest rooms that were a welcome break. So we headed back to where Roonlou had been, but they had gone! Eventually reunited we found them cashing out, and cashing out up again! Man these guys are lucky! And so on into Cesar’s giant shopping mall! We checked out the Coach store on a mission for a friend back home, but were out of luck as the item we wanted was out of stock. So we headed out to watch the rather tacky Atlantis show… quite weird, and very cheesy. To be honest I’m not sure what was going on, the sound system is worse than waterloo station! By now it was lunchtime, so we retraced our steps a little way back into the mall; to a chocolate restaurant we’d seen. The restaurant was called Max Brenner’s, and it was awesome! Where else can you get chocolate pizza for dessert! To be good we had a little greenery to start. Si and I split a Chicken and bacon waffle (there was salad on it too), Roonlou opted for a Prosciutto, apple and pear waffle (see fruit!). Then onto the main reason for stopping here…. the fully loaded chocolate pizza… A pizza base smothered in melted chocolate, and then topped with marshmallows, peanut butter, bananas (surely we’ve hit five for today!), caramel sauce, and nuts! Rather conveniently it was cut into four slices, so no fighting… which no doubt there would have been! I have to say it was possibly the best pizza I’ve ever had! We settled the bill and headed out of Cesar’s, past the spiral escalators, which I was keen to see. They were very weird, and the engineer in me really wanted to know how they work! Onwards and outwards…. To the Mirage. Here we split up again Roonlou to play another Craps machine, us to play another Roulette machine. Roonlou won again, I think we may have lost about $10…so not too bad. With time marching on we headed on again, catching the little train to Treasure Island. First stop Starbucks, where Roonlou get iced coffees, Si has a mocha (and a banana of all things!) and I go all out on a bottle of water! Rehydrated we spend a little more time gambling….hey when in Rome! Here the strip ran out of casinos on this side, and so a short stop was paid in the Fashion Mall. Here we made a reservation for tomorrow night at Capital Grille, for Roonlou’s anniversary…. A reservation we weren’t to keep! Si and I also had a quick reconnaissance mission into A&F for purchases, but we were conscious that our chums were keen to keep moving, so decided to come back tomorrow. By now it was around 5pm, and so we decided to make our way back down the strip to the Cosmo. On the way we stopped to take pictures and to dodge filming crews…. Apparently filming someone called “Cedric the entertainer”? Back at the hotel we decide to meet for dinner at 7:30, but in the mean time Lou pops up with a load of laundry, and declares squatters rights on the washing machine! Tonight’s dinner was in a restaurant in the Bellagio. It was called Noodles, and we were all ready for our Asian delights as we were shown to our table. To drink Roonlou share some Sake, Si has a Chinese beer, and I stuck to the water. For starters Roonlou split some edamame beans, Si and I split some Chicken Dim Sum. There was an odd number of our dim sum, so to avoid arguing we traded the odd one with roonlou for some edamame as Si had never had them before and was keen to try. Onto the mains… Pad Thai for Lou, Penang flat noodles with chicken for Roo, Hong Kong noodles for Si and Sweet and Sour Chicken with rice for me. There really was way too much food for the four of us, but we at least had a little try of each other’s dishes and it was all really nice! Once again no pictures from me of dinner but you can find some here in Roonlou’s report to salivate over! And so we settled the bill and waddled out of the restaurant. All of us were so full we couldn’t waddle too far and gave up when we saw Roonlou’s favourite Craps machine, so we took up a couple of stations. Si and I had seen how Roonlou had been winning pretty much all the time on these machines and so took a few moments to try and grasp the basics, before giving it a go our selves. The game is exactly the same as regular craps, the difference is that you bet on a computer screen, and the dice are in a big tube in front of you. The tube has a vibrating plate in the bottom of it, and then the “Shooter” hits a big button to roll…and which point the dice are thrown up in the air…think Pop-it, like the board game. So we gingerly fed in $20 and thought what the hell, when it’s gone its gone. Lets just say we must have been taught well by our chums… we left the machine with $ 111.88… I make that a good $90 profit! Cashing out, we headed back to the Cosmo, and sat on another of these craps machines. This was all well and good apart from some over zealous chaps were there who were trying to explain to us how to play. Fine tell me how to play but do not push the screen I’m playing and effectively bet with my money! So Si and I cash out to get away from them… still up another $50. Roonlou are brave and stay in for one more round and cash out $70 up. And so gambled out for the evening and wanting to get away from the crazy drunk guys on the craps tables we call it a night. My head hits the pillow and I’m out by about 11pm.
