50 Shades of Grump: Day 5 - IOA and Move to Beach Club Villas
Day 5 – 1st Sep – Fifty Shades of Grump – IOA and move to Beach Club Villas
Shaun (52) – Grumpy old man – moderatrix / geriatrix Alison (47) – Chief planner, long suffering wife of grumpy old man – moderatrix / arbitratrix Alexandra (20) – isittimeforatwix? Laura (18) – creatrix Link to trip report index: Here Alarm set for 7am today although I woke up just beforehand. All of us apart from Laura went down to Emack & Bolio's to grab some breakfast and take stuff back up for her – just like the old days! Ok, so we had: - Alison: Bagel and Starbucks Shaun: Bagel and Starbucks Alexandra: Bagel and Apple Juice We hadn’t left Laura behind to be mean – she wanted a lie in and asked us to take her back a croissant (which we did). We packed and left luggage with Bell Services and valuables in a safe behind reception then walked to IOA to go on the rides there, temperature still on the rise so it’s going to be another hot day! Quick stop for a couple of photographs Cat in the Hat – this is another ride that I’m sure we could narrate verbatim as we go round Jurassic Park – before we got on the ride we had a change of clothes in our bags, mainly swimwear, and a small hand towel. We’ve done wet rides too many times over the years and not going to suffer with wet underthings for the rest of the day. Dudley Do Rights - Alison wimped off this one but the rest of us rode this a couple of times on the bounce – great (ride that is, not Alison not being there). We all did Popeye and Blutos Bilge Rat Barges (4 times!) – what a laugh, especially watching those who really should have spent more time looking at the warning signs. There was one woman wearing a pair of jeans! – sheesh! She wouldn’t have dried out at all that day! We got dry clothes on after we’d had our fill of water rides then Alison and Laura did Dr Doom while Alexandra and I did the Hulk, another ride that always hits the mark. So far the park is completely dead, so few people around we didn’t really need to use our FOTL passes anywhere so far. Time for Lunch so we thought we’d try Captain America: Alexandra: Chicken Sandwich and Fries Laura: Chicken Salad Alison: Cheeseburger and Fries Me: Chicken Sandwich and Fries Onion rings to share 2 large drinks to share $44 We all wandered around the Harry Potter area but too full up to do any rides, we’ll be back to do those later. This is probably the busiest area of the park by far, so this is where everybody was camped out.! we’d missed our window for Early Entry but no big deal. We just did the one ride. Dragon Challenge – still a good ride despite the recent changes and the debate goes onto as to which side is better Alexandra is flagging with the heat so she headed back to the hotel for a swim and the rest of us went to Universal Studios. I must admit that temperature is continuing to rise steadily.

Alison, Laura and I all did The Mummy, another ride that still holds up even though the film won’t mean much to some of the youngsters. Still very good and has the queues to support that.
Alison and Laura did Disaster but I couldn’t be bothered with pre-show stuff this time round so I just grabbed a drink and sat in the sun catching up with notes and having a long cool drink. Laura and I did Rip Ride Rockit, I still like this a lot as previously mentioned, that initial uphill part staring into the sky – mmmm. Alison sat with a Starbucks frappucino and waited for us. A quick trip around the shops and I had a Banana! – possibly a reference back to a previous trip report! (Alison: Possibly? No possibly about it – he had a big banana! See our trip reports from 2010 to see what this means) Then we all headed back to HRH to collect Alexandra from the pool (she looked a lot cooler than we did, so we all had a quick swim!) Sun still shining brightly and very hot with clear blue skies – bliss. We collected the belongings from the safe and luggage from Bell Services and called for the car from valet parking. Such a treat for a small outlay, considering you have to pay for parking anyway! All packed and ready to roll and move to Disney to check in the Beach Club Villas. There was a huge amount of people checking in but they had plenty of staff on hand to minimize the queues. Keys picked up and we were allocated Villa 342. A lovely room! We rang for the luggage which came quickly, then got changed and walked into Epcot. Apart from loving this place the walk through to Epcot and the parks is just bliss. It makes a real change from having to get busses or driving and a real benefit. A quick snap of the kitchen / lounge area. The temperature was getting lower as we walk through to eat at Teppan Edo. We’ve done this before and as it was great last time so we all put it on our favourite list. That’ll give you some idea of what’s involved – give it a go, you’ll love it! Epcot is still very empty and there’s a bit of time before the fireworks start so we took a look around the shops and Alexandra added to her “hat shots” as per previous trip reports. When the Illuminations started you could literally pick a place anywhere you wanted, never seen anything like it ever before! Well, no point in moving from here so we stayed put. After the fireworks had completed we headed back to the room and lights off by 11pm. Absolutely shattered, it’s been a very long day but well worth it. The weather was lovely again

Lovely day. I love staying in the Epcot resorts too for the ease of walking to the Studios and Epcot.
