Mr and Mrs T's West Coast Tour - Day 11
Due to other guests staying somewhere else for the night due to over indulgence at a wedding we had breakfast on the decking with our hosts Steve and Mary Kay.
What a wonderful way to finish our stay. A superb breakfast and some excellent conversation with our hosts who it seemed we had known for ages instead of only 3 days. We are going to miss A Bed of Roses. It really was a lovely stay. They were off out so left us to finish our packing. Said our goodbyes and loaded the car up for the next stage of our journey. It would be a 2 hour journey to our next stop – a trip to Fresno Zoo. Somewhere Elaine found and thought would break up the journey. Put the address into Britney and off we went. A lovely drive through rolling hills and lovely countryside. Fresno Zoo is situated in a huge park which is used for other activities. I paid the $5 dollar entrance fee and found the car park near the zoo. Amazed to see how much it was to enter. As I was 62 it would cost the the princely sum of $3.50. Elaine as she is a bit younger would cost $7. We enjoyed the lovely couple of hours we spent strolling round. We were very impressed with how well the zoo was laid out, how clean it was and how very friendly the staff were. I particularly enjoyed the reptile house. Elaine stayed outside! Excellent variety of reptiles in a well laid out house. The spitting cobra was an interesting creature! Had a bit of lunch which like the zoo was very good. It was now getting very warm – mid 90s and Elaine was suffering a bit, so we decided to end our visit and continue our journey to our next stop – The Carriage Vineyard – where we will be for 3 nights. Found the freeway and soon we were driving through more lovely countryside and rolling hills. Once we left the freeway our journey continued through farmland and very windy roads – often feeling like being on Big Thunder Mountain. Soon we were turning into the entrance to the Carriage Vineyard. What faced us when we got to the end of the drive was very impressive. We expected to be greeted by the owner but all we found on the door was a letter with our name on. As it was a rather big working vineyard it seemed the way it was done was for the guests to be left a letter and basically find their own way to their rooms. Strange! But it seems to work which is fair enough. Pictures above and below show the kitchen/dining room where we all sat for breakfast Our room is on the ground floor on the left of the car The front door was unlocked so we entered and found our ground floor room. It was very nice with a huge bed. Went and got the cases and hung up our things in the big walk in closet. Once done Elaine made a cup of coffee – we had access to the kitchen which contained soft drinks in the fridge plus snacks which we could help ourselves to – and we made our way out back where there was a table and chairs. The smell of the jasmine was delightful and we settled down knowing we were going to enjoy our stay. Had a stroll round part of the property which obviously was well cared for. The owner had left us a bottle of red wine which was a lovely gesture. No a red person so I opened one of the bottles we had bought with us. We relaxed in a very peaceful lounge looking out onto the front of the property before calling it a night in a very comfortable bed.
