So Cal Road Trip - Day 11 - Monday 16th May – Las Americas Outlets, Coronado & Mission Beaches

Miles driven today 85 miles
Miles driven this trip 1065 miles

We left the hotel at 10 am. Forecast was again cloudy in the morning but warming up in the afternoon with the sun burning through. It burned through as forecast and the weather was lovely today.
We drove to Las Americas Premium Outlets on the Mexican border. We arrived bang on predicted time at 10.30. What a pleasure driving here compared to LA.
Parked at Bath and bBdy works and came out with a heavy bag and 97 bucks lighter!
We walked around, more purchases From Janie and Jack, and North Face and Kenneth Cole, and then Panda Express and Cinnabon in the food court and we were on our way.
Some of the North Face insulated jackets were on sale here at real bargain prices, starting at 50 dollars. I resisted the temptation.
We first went to Coronado beach, passing the lovely marina, and the fabulous looking Hotel de Coronado which looks like the Grand Floridan in Orlando.
We parked up easy enough and went for a walk along the beach, which was not busy, but not deserted. Sand was lovely, although seemed dirty nearer water. We stopped and watched the marines doing training exercises with their inflatable dingys. Also a few naval vessels offshore, and helicopter and flight activity, obviously busy naval base here.
We then had a walk through the area with shops and restaurants, and regretted eating at food hall, as some nice places here. Walked back to car through residential area, some lovely houses here again.
Then drove across the Bay Bridge, camera battery died here unfortunately, and dropped in past Horton Plaza to return a couple of items to Macy's, which was almost deserted.
We were out quite quickly, again free validated parking, and headed for Mission Beach.
Busier here, but again parked easily, and we walked right along the boardwalk to the channel, again some lovely houses right on the beach, and the volleyball courts busy, with lots of kids being coached. We walked back to the shop and restaurant area, and sat and enjoyed some frozen yoghurt in the lovely sunshine. Had a lovely walk here, and this would be a really great area to stay in.
Lots of bar seating facing the boardwalk and sea, and quite a few people sitting here enjoying a beer.
Back into the car around 17.45, and set Sat Nav for Walmart to get some sweets and stuff to take home. I also bought another bottle of car polish, cannot help myself!
Got back to hotel just after 7, parked just outside hotel. Chilled out in room watching TV, and I had some wine.
Hotel pool was empty. This is a lovely hotel, room is great, tons of room, but not much to do. There is a small bar set up in lobby, some people here drinking wine and eating take away pizza. This is more a convention hotel.
We had a lovely day today. So glad we never went back to the desert.
If coming back to SD, I think I would try hard to get a condo down Mission Beach area, think this would be a lovely area to stay.
