Busch Gardens in Tampa held a media tour of its new R.L. Stine's Haunted Lighthouse 4-D attraction last week and said it will debut to the public on May 31
R.L. Stine's Haunted Lighthouse is based upon the original story written by R.L. Stine, the popular author of "Goosebumps" and "Nightmare Room" children's horror books.
R.L. Stine's Haunted Lighthouse stars veteran actors Christopher Lloyd, "Weird Al" Yankovic and Lea Thompson in a spellbinding story that goes beyond traditional movie releases. The immersive experience combines state-of-the-art visual effects with multi-sensory surprises.
"Sensory effects such as fog and interactive seats envelope the audience in an extraordinary 4-D experience in Banbury Cross' Globe Theatre," said Dan Brown, executive vice president and general manager for Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA. "This dynamic attraction enhances our focus as a family-oriented adventure park," added Brown.
The story centers around two children who, while vacationing at the beach with their family, meet a salty sailor who spins a tale of a haunted lighthouse seen in the distance. The adventure begins when a strange young boy leads the disbelieving children to the lighthouse. The ghostly lad guides the siblings on a spooky, family-friendly journey. Sam Hamm wrote the screenplay and Joe Dante, whose Hollywood directorial credits include "Gremlins" and "Innerspace," directed the film.
Special 3-D glasses allow state-of-the-art visual effects to "pop" off the screen right in front of the viewer's eyes. The 25-minute experience also includes "in your face" special effects like water sprays, air blasts and rain. Seats in the Globe Theatre are equipped with specialized surround-sound speakers to enhance the sensory experience.
