Tipping Guidelines
We get asked about tipping many times on our forums, when to tip? how much to tip? To Tip or not to Tip? hopefully this page will provide some information to help you whilst over in Florida.
Tipping here in the UK is becoming more and more common but as a general rule we do not tip, in the USA tipping is the norm, especially for service staff like Porters, Chamber Maids and Restaurant Staff. Below is a guide as to what to tip and who to tip but please remember it is only a guide. Tipping is a way of showing your satisfaction with the service you have received.
Vehicles
Taxi drivers should be tipped 15% of the total fare
If you are using a Towncar service, for example Airport Transfer then you should tip 10 - 15% each way, remember that you will probably have a different driver on the return trip so always tip each way.
If you are using Valet Parking then tip $2 or $5 on arrival and departure.
Housekeeping / Maid Service
Tipping on Disney Property is not strictly required but it is always nice to leave them something for cleaning up after you. Usually a tip of $2 per room per day is sufficient maybe leave a little more if your room is a real mess!
Please leave a Tip each day as you may not have the same maid everyday. Make it clear that the money is for them. You can leave the money on the pillow or better still you can add a touch of magic and prepare some envelopes for the maids.
Restaurants
The standard tip in a full service restaurant is 15% - 20% of the total bill. If you are using a discount coupon the tip should still be based on the full price not the discounted price.
Please remember though that you are tipping for the Service not the quality of the food.
If you receive exceptional service then show your appreciation with a larger tip.
If the service you receive is poor then show this with a smaller tip. Always leave a tip to show poor service, if you do not leave a tip they will assume you just forgot to tip rather than demonstrating the service was poor.
Make sure you check your bill before paying or leaving a tip, in some cases the tip or gratuity will have been included, especially with larger groups.
Bars
Usually a tip of 10% of the total bar bill is acceptable
Porters / Bell hops
The usual tip is $1 or $2 per bag when delivering your bags to your room or helping you with your bags at the airport.
