Day 18 - Wednesday Sept 18th - and home.

Well, our last balcony breakfast before we (this means I) finished the packing, managed to get all of the shopping safely in the cases and bags, and did a sweep for things we usually leave behind, then we rang Bell services to come and take our bags. For anyone doing this, remember to have a stack of $1 bills, as you tip the one who collects it, the one who brings it out when the bus is here, and the bus driver who unloads it all. It's usually $1 per bag each. We had 5 bags, so around $15 but worth it as it's taken care of, and no lifting of heavy bags. We also gave them bags of British sweets that we'd brought for our (non existent) cruise.
Once that was sorted we wandered into Epcot, past the Skyliner which was moving but not yet in use, for a FP on Frozen. We've only been on it once before and noticed lots more details this time. Spaceship Earth was next, then another look in the Art of Disney.
There are even more barriers up already, it's a bit like an obstacle course in places as you go across the central area towards the World Showcase.
We watched the Mariachi band in Mexico and spent a couple of snack credits (for the airport) in Germany before going to Chefs de France for lunch. We were 5 mins early and seated immediately, this never happens at Chefs! Our server, Maxime, was a delight, he definitely earned a good tip, the steaks were just right and at last I had a great Creme brle.
After lunch we popped in for another show of Impressions de France, then stumbled upon a Character palooza where we had pics with Mr Penguin and Tigger. There were 6 characters out only for around 15 mins.
We went back to BC, spent our last 2 credits on drinks for the bus and waited for the Tragical Express to collect us.
Our flight was on time, and we survived the 5 hour drive back to the NE. Now I need to sort out our refund from Disney Cruise Line, hopefully it goes smoothly as I've read of others having problems.
Hope you've enjoyed my trip. X

Day 17 - Tuesday Sept 17th

After coffee and (you guessed it) a pastry in the sun, I decided that rather than leave the packing till tonight when I probably couldn't be bothered, I'd do some this morning, so DH thankfully went to the pool with his book, out of my way for a while.
I managed to do most of it - filling the empty case and a spare carry on bag too. The shopping and bits just seem to mount up more than you think over the holiday! Then I headed down to join him at the quiet pool with my book and cold drink. We stayed there until lunchtime when we had a quick shower and got the boat to Hollywood Studios.
We'd missed 2 FP by being lazy and didn't want to miss our second ride on Slinky Dog, but first we stopped at Starbucks for, well you couldn't call it lunch, but it was nice! (I'm dreading Slimming World next week!)
After SDD we got onto Toy Story Mania with a 20 min wait, then wandered through to Galaxy's Edge where there were various characters walking around, and we checked out a Storm Trooper suit for only $6,615 and DH found himself saying 'well it's not bad really for what you're getting!' We bought a mug.
We then went in the single rider line again for Smugglers Run and we were in and out in 20 mins. We loved it. We've found that it gets to be a better experience the more you do it as the first time you're a bit distracted, I'd also advise queuing up properly the first time, then using single rider after that if you don't mind being apart.
Then after going on Star Tours we found ourselves with a martini in the Hollywood Brown Derby lounge and watched the SW show from there.
We'd missed our Frozen show FP earlier, so we caught it 10 mins before starting, it's always funny - and has proper seats and air con 😊.
Time to say goodbye to HS for this trip and we got our last boat 'home' to get ready for a walk round the lake to Flying Fish Cafe where we had the best meal of the trip, my filet was fabulous, and when we ordered the cheese plate as an appetiser we went with the servers suggestion of counting it as a dessert rather than paying extra, then just sharing 1 dessert - we were glad we did as the dessert was big.
The walk back to BC was lovely in the dark, and when we got back I was so pleased that most of the packing was done!
Almost time for home ....

Day 16, Monday Sept 16th.

We were actually up at 7 am today - I thought it was the middle of the night 😆 because we had the Taste of the Magic Kingdom VIP tour booked and we needed to check in at 8.45.
We were on the bus at 7.55, it was full and we commented that the driver was taking us a different route - and he was, he pulled up at the TTC! Some people got off confused and I suddenly morphed into 'bossy nurse/my mother was a guide captain' mode, told everyone to stop getting off and told the driver to turn around and take us to the Magic Kingdom. It was funny as they did sit down 😆. The driver's English wasn't great and he was convinced that he was in the right place, so I asked him get on his radio for instructions. He spoke to someone and they finally directed him to MK, the other passengers were grateful but I was really bossy though 😬!
We checked in for the tour at Tony's Town Square, I'm not going to do a full spoiler type report but I will post food photos as they change them regularly. We had 8 tastings, coffee, 3 bottles of water and a soft drink. 1 tasting couldn't be photographed as it was an 'in production' meal idea which we had to give our views on. There were no photos allowed backstage. We loved it, the guides were great and had props for photos at the purple wall afterwards and the 3 hours flew over. We've enjoyed all of the tours we've done, and try to do a new one each time.
Between 12 noon when this finished, and 4.20pm we went on Pirates, 7DMT, Peter Pan, the Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, the Teacups, we watched the Tiki Birds show and the Main Street marching band, then sat in rocking chairs and had a churro ice cream sandwich while we watched the Liberty Square Muppets, and finally shopped down Main Street.
In the Crystal shop they didn't have the display stand we wanted for our Arribas figures, but the CM rang the Disney Springs store who put one away for us, so at 4.30 we hopped on a bus to DS to get it. We also did a bit more Xmas shopping, watched some live music and had our dinner at the Polite Pig before going back to the Beach Club.
Once again we were woken at almost midnight by fireworks - It looks great, but we've seen it (at least the firework bit) 4 times now and are fed up of being woken up!

Day 15, Sunday 15th Sept.

We were a bit lazier this morning - not that we ever hurry! We were going to the California Grill for Sunday brunch, one of our favourite meals. Last year we were very late due to traffic problems, so we set out in good time and got there early enough for a wander found the shops first.
The brunch, as ever, was amazing. It's the first ADR we make at 180 days out. We were there for over 2 hours, bottomless mimosas and a cocktail each, fab food and wonderful service.
After leaving there we got the monorail to the Grand Floridian, just for a walk around. It's a beautiful resort, and we always visit but have never wanted to stay there.
Instead of going straight over to HS we decided to go back to the resort to put our feet up for an hour (nothing whatsoever to do with the 5 mimosas etc), then later we got the boat to HS for our Slinky Dog FP. We also went on the Alien Saucers and watched the Muppet Show - it was so funny because when it finished there was a young Japanese couple sitting near us and they were sound asleep. I had to wake them up to leave and they hadn't a clue where they were 😆.
Throughout the day it had been absolutely pouring down at intervals and the poncho has been on and off, but still red hot - as we got into Galaxy's Edge it was torrential rain, we only really wanted to get some Coke bottles to take home, so we didn't bother with the ride again.
When it stopped we went for an ice cream sundae along near the Tower of Terror and I used a couple of our snack credits to buy sundaes for a couple in the line, while DH bought me something in the Pandora shop to put away for Xmas along with the Kate Spade bracelet he got at DS.
We didn't stay for Fantasmic as the weather was too unreliable so we got the boat back before the crowds, and spent more snack credits in the Marketplace on candies to bring home for the family.

Day 14, Saturday Sept 14th.

We slept in this morning, so had a bit of a rush to get to MK but we made it in good time for our Thunder Mountain FP. The park was very busy today - seemed like everyone who cancelled for the hurricane turned up this weekend 🙂.
Splash Mountain was down which didn't help with the lines around the Frontierland area.
We made our way to Gastons for our Cinnamon roll fix and managed to eat (almost) a full one each again. With extra icing. We shared a table with a family from Liverpool who kindly gave us a baby wipe each 😆.
We walked onto the Voyage of the Little Mermaid surprisingly, and then made our way round to the Haunted Mansion just before the heavy rain started, so we dipped into the Country Bears Jamboree and Philharmagic again.
We wandered over to Tomorrowland for the People Mover - great for resting the feet, but my seed the Carousel of Progress as it went down just as we got to it.
Seeing as we were near the Ice Cream parlour it would have been rude not to have an All American Sundae, for a peanut butter fix. Then we got a great spot for the parade which started about 20 mins later, I was talking to a UK family who were on their first visit and loving everything, and succeeded in stopping another family trying to edge people out so they could get in front!
After the parade we popped back to Buzz Lightyear for our 3rd FP - and I only beat DH! 125,000 points🥇
We headed off on the Monorails to Epcot after this as we had a Wine Tasting booked, and watched the musical Chefs show on the way.
The Wine tasting was around 45 mins and it was by the Florida Wine Company, we enjoyed them - they were fruit wines rather than grape. My favourite was Key Lime Wine!
Afterwards we wandered round generally enjoying the shows in the U.K. and Canada, and saw some of Tiffany's Eat to the Beat show. I bought a lovely F&W quiche dish.
We were ready for dinner by the time we got back round to Mexico and we're booked at Hacienda de San Angel - top tip - don't make a pig of yourself with guacamole and tortilla chips, or you won't eat all your dinner! They were quite cheeky, as we were too full for dessert so didn't order it but the server still put 2 on the bill "for the DDP" so the suggested tip included 2 x $10 desserts!
I'm not usually fussy with tips but it annoyed me so we took that amount off and we paid cash for tips and an appetiser. Later at the resort we found they'd then 'charged our band' $13 for the appetiser and kept the whole cash as a tip. Cheek!! The food was good though.

Day 13, Fri Sept 13th.

While I got ready slowly as I woke with a head ache, DH returned the hire car to the Dolphin and walked back, then we got a bus to Animal Kingdom - lucky again as the bus was already at the stop. We had a fast pass for Flight of Passage as soon as we arrived, it's still the best ride at WDW.
We then went for a sugar fix - we shared cinnamon roll and most of a rice Krispy treat from Pandora 🤣 before heading to Rafikis Planet Watch on the little train, for the Animation Experience, we had a go but there is quite a lot of seating and they have a standby line too. It was a really fun experience, with a handler showing a bird, and the animator leading the drawing session. I was quite pleased with mine 😆.
After getting the train back, we had a fast pass for Kilimanjaro Safari which was really good again with most of the animals out. We didn't expect it as it was early afternoon and very hot. I didn't take one photo of an animal this time!!
We had a walk around the Tiger trail, checked out the shops, and had photos taken, then decided to have a late lunch and go back to the BC pool. We shared a meal and Snack credits down by the lake at Flame Tree BBQ and then went for a bus, temp was in the 90s again!
Back at the resort we went straight to the quiet pool, and I put some laundry in while we read and dipped in and out of the pool and spa tub. We were there for 2.5 hours before we got ready to go down to Disney Springs for dinner.
DS was really busy, but it was Friday night! On the way to House of Blues, we noticed that Kate Spade had 30% off everything, so DH bought me a bracelet but he's keeping it towards my Xmas presents 🙂. We had a lovely meal and really enjoyed the live music and buzzy atmosphere, but were ready to head home to bed by 10.30 🤣, we know how to live!!
Awoken again at midnight by flipping fireworks - this is the third time and apparently they are testing the new Epcot firework show, but staff at our guest services desk are unable to say which nights it will happen!

Day 12, Thurs Sept 12th.

This morning we had to go to the resort business centre to pick up a small package that a friend kindly sent me, so we set off on the hunt for it inside the huge conference centre at the Yacht Club - it's an amazing building! It took a while as there was a problem with it, and tempers nearly got frayed!
Once out of there we drove round to Fantasia Gardens for a game of golf, DH won as usual, one day I'll surprise him! Fantasia Gardens isn't looking as well kept as usual, seems ready for a refurb, I think it's partly because of all the building work around it for the new Cove Hotel.
We then headed to Celebration, our second favourite place after the Beach Club, where we enjoyed a long walk around all 3 lakes etc, it was very hot again. There were loads of huge cicadas on the paths - for those who don't know, these are the charmers who make the lovely chirping noises in the trees!
There are no nice little decoration/souvenir type stores at all left now in Celebration which is a shame, and we noticed more restaurants on the outskirts of town.
There were lots of families enjoying the fountains and Kilwin's.
We had lunch at the Town Tavern which is one of our must do', it's consistently good and very popular. I'm sure the Cobb Salad is getting bigger 😆.
After lunch and another walk along the river, we popped into Publix for treats etc to take home, before going back to the resort for a while - we just got in as the heavens opened, first rain in 8-9 days!
We decided to go to the AMC cinema at Disney Springs to see Lion King as we hadn't seen it (we had been expecting to watch it in the cinema on the Disney Dream!) so we got the bus down there. We really enjoyed it, and then watched more live music before sharing a Blaze Pizza for the first time (but it won't be the last) and heading back to the BC and bed.
