Timeout's DIBB Photo Blogs

We had a slow start to our day today, everyone needed a bit of a lie in. We skipped breakfast as we had an early lunch at Spice Road Table in the Morocco pavilion in EPCOT.

We chose to sit outside and got a lovely table overlooking the water.

Hubby order a Turkish beer the rest of us had sodas.

Starters

Hummus and Imported Olives - with cornichons and za'atar pita bread

Brie Fondue - Baked Brie with Rosemary Croutons

Spicy Garlic Shrimp - sauteed shrimp with dried chilies and fried garlic

Everyone had a bit of everyone else's with these. The hummus options were really nice as was the shrimp, the star item was the baked Brie which was very good. It had marmalade on top which we loved, we would never have thought to put this with baked cheese but it was a perfect addition and we will be trying it ourselves at Christmas!

Mains

Mix Grill Skewers - marinated beef and chicken, with garlic and fresh herbs with rosemary roasted potatoes

Mum enjoyed these, the Chicken had its own sauce which added to its favour.

All-Natural Roasted Chicken - fennel fingerling potatoes in star anise ouzo sauce

Oldest had this, I think the favour of the sauce was maybe a bit much for him but he made a good attempt at eating this.

Mediterranean Vegetable Platter - harissa hummus fries, rice stuffed grape leaves, mixed olives and babaganoush, served with pita bread

This was really good, lots of lovely flavours.

Yellow Fin Tuna - spicy Harissa tuna with eggplant, zucchini capers and basil oil

Hubby really enjoyed this too, the portion was really large.

Kids fish nuggets

Desserts

Chocolate Pyramid - with almond ice cream - Devoured by our eldest!

Saffron and Lemon Custard
Really yummy with a feint lemon favour

Assorted Baklavas
Nice but would have been better with a bit of ice-cream

Overall a great meal. The small plates were be a great option if you weren't on dining plan or were trying to save credits. The view across the lake would be great for watching illuminations.

We had a couple of drinks as we wandered around a very hot world showcase

American dream

Blue raspberry slushy

Dinner

We booked garden grill for dinner this evening, we had originally booked Coral Reef but when we arrived we discovered that they had changed the menu and it now didn't suit us (that would be me!) I suggested that everyone else went and I would go somewhere else but they didn't want to do that so we were able to cancel the reservation at the restaurant and we booked Garden Grill instead via the app.

When we arrived they warned us that they were running about 20 minutes late which didn't bother us, we grabbed a seat knowing that it would be a while. Within a couple of minutes though we were called so I'm guessing they caught up with the delay.

We were shown to an outside booth table and the family style meal explained. Drinks orders were taken and we were told to wait for the characters to visit us. I also explained that I was vegetarian and the server said that she would bring separate vegetarian platters for me.

Sierra Nevada torpedo for hubby. Everyone else had sodas.

To start we received bread rolls and honey butter.

The butter was really good.
And salad, one with bacon

And one without

And potato salad

For mains we received a platter containing meatloaf, turkey, sausage, mash potatoes, green beans and courgettes.

And a separate helping of fries and mac and cheese.

The vegetarian platter contained vegetarian meatloaf, mash potatoes, green beans, courgettes, mac and cheese, fries and 5 grain rice.

The kids really enjoyed the sausage and turkey and Hubby and Mum thought the meatloaf was the best thing on the platter. Everyone ate their fill but we had loads left over. The vegetarian meatloaf was an combination of vegetables and tofu with a tomato sauce on top, it was quite nice and the courgettes were lovely but again I really didn't much of an impact on the platter.

Dessert was fruit shortcake

And cookies

Again this was a massive portion, slices of sponge with strawberries and blueberries in a sauce poured over the sponge and served with vanilla cream. It was much nicer than I thought it would be, the flavours of the fruit were really good.

Overall this was a good meal, the kids loved the characters and the food was better than we expected. A great last minute change.

The Crystal Palace

Breakfast

We had an 8.05am for Crystal Palace this morning. We were allowed into the Magic Kingdom at 7.40 and we made or way up a not particularly empty Main Street to the restaurant. We were about the 7th family to be called into the restaurant.

Our server was nice and gave us autograph cards from the characters as they no longer sign autograph books. ☹️ My kids were disappointed about this as they are collecting autographs on picture mounts rather than in books so we can frame some pictures for them when they get home.

Anyway the characters came to our table very quickly and were happy to spend time taking different photos, we were warned that not to miss them as it could take a long time for them to come back as it was we saw each character numerous times during the meal.

We really enjoyed the buffet, we felt that the quality had improved a lot in the last couple of years and we all would happily go back again during the holiday if credits and reservations would allow.

Some buffet photos

Some of our plates

Hubby's comment " smoked salmon, breakfast pizza, steak omelette and two types of sausage for breakfast, what a country!!!" As you can tell he was very happy with the options available.

We left full and happy.
We spent the morning in Magic Kingdom and enjoyed some drinks.

Frozen lemonade

The Boathouse

We visited Disney Springs in its new form for the first time this evening, our dinner was at the Boathouse.

Hubby had had his eye on steak oscar style for many months and tonight was the night! I'd read mixed reviews of the restaurant so wasn't sure what we would find.

We checked in and were shown straight to our table we were immediately given water and lovely warm bread rolls. (The kids loved these!)

Our server took us through the menu and suggested that we pay for kids options and not use credits.

Starters

Firecracker Shrimp - Sriracha mayo, serrano chilis and sweet peppers

BOATHOUSE Pimento Cheese - mixed vegetable pickles, white corn tortilla chips

Mains

Filet Mignon - 8 ounce

Filet Mignon Oscar Style - 8 ounce, jumbo lump crab, asparagus, Bearnaise

Both steaks were fantastic, well cooked and and presented

Spring Vegetables & Cavatappi Pasta - English peas, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, red pepper, zucchini and garlic butter-wine sauce

This was nice, it had a really good flavour and lots of vegetables

Crispy Panko-Fried Gulf Catch of the Day - with fresh cut fries and tartar sauce and lemon served in a dockside bucket

Blue Star Angus Cheese Burger

Youngest loved the car it came in!

Desserts
We shared between all of us.

Key Lime Pie in a Mason Jar - vanilla bean chantilly cream

Double Chocolate Bundt Cake - vanilla ice cream, raspberry coulis, Valrhona fudge sauce

This was a nice bitter chocolate cake. The sauce worked really well with it.

NY Style Blueberry Cheesecake - graham cracker crust, cinnamon crumb topping

This was amazing, it was very rich but so good. The cinnamon crunch topping was a great addition.

This turned out to be the best meal we've had yet. Great service and fabulous food. We were really glad we had tried it. I understand that for two credits unless you're going to have steak or lobster then it makes it not great value, we would however visit again.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to reply to comments yet I do appreciate them. We've got a quieter day on Thursday so hopefully I'll catch up then.

Olivia's- OKW

Breakfast

This morning we had an early date with Olivia's. We were the first people in the restaurant, we love the chilled out feel to it and always enjoy breakfast here.

Everyone enjoyed what they had and the family requested that we can go again in a few days. We had:

Crab Cake Eggs Benedict - Two-Poached Eggs and two pan-fried Crab Cakes on an English Muffin with Key Lime Hollandaise and Olivia's breakfast potatoes

Waffle and Eggs - Waffles with Two Eggs-Any Style with choice of Bacon, Sausage, or Ham with Strawberry or Blueberry Sauce

Eldest had this minus the eggs!

2 x Sombrero Beach Omelet - Ham, Green Peppers, Onions, and Cheddar topped with Sour Cream and Pico de Gallo. Served with potato casserole and a Buttermilk Biscuit.

I removed the ham from this.

Kids Mickey-shaped Waffles - Mickey waffles served with syrup and butter and fruit

Frozen cappuccino

I had been waiting two years for this, yes it's sweet but it's one of my favourite things in wdw. I would travel here just to get one!

A great start to the day.

We spent the morning at blizzard beach and grabbed a couple of snacks to keep the boys going before heading back to okw

Pretzel with cheese dip ( I always rub most of the salt off)

Pineapple pot (on a very hot day this was lovely and refreshing)

Dinner

Hollywood brown derby

We had a late afternoon reservation at Hollywood Brown Derby with the Fantasmic package. We arrived a little early but were called almost immediately. The restaurant was lovely and felt like you'd stepped back in time. Our server was friendly and efficient.

We ordered drinks. Those other than sodas were:

Grapefruit hefeweizen - my favourite!

First we were given lovely fresh warm bread rolls with butter which had red sea salt and thyme added.

Starters
Roasted Zellwood Corn Soup - jumbo lump crab, sweet and hot fresno chile relish, basque espelette pepper oil

Local Greens Salad with Champagne Vinaigrette - blueberries, local peaches, Laura Chenel goat cheese, spiced candied pecans

Our Famous Cobb Salad with finely chopped greens, turkey breast, egg, bacon, tomatoes, crumbled bleu cheese, avocado, chives and Cobb dressing

Beef Carpaccio - Capers, lemon-mustard aioli, petite salad greens, Caesar dressing, toasted French bread

Main courses

Vegetarian Pho - ginger-lemon grass broth, mushroom and tofu spring rolls, ginger-soy dipping sauce

Bell & Evans Chicken Breast - pancetta, guajilo pepper, tomato stuffing, roasted fingerling potatoes, morel mushrooms, romanesco, sun-dried tomato sauce

Roasted Cheshire Pork Chop - chorizo-chive dusted, smoked bacon, crimini mushroom-bread pudding, corn butter, broccolini, sweet tomato puree

Charred Filet of Beef - mushroom, white truffle potatoes croquette, jumbo green and white asparagus, toy box tomato, rainbow carrot, watercress salad, Bin 27 port wine reduction;

Children's hot dog meal

Dessert

This was a set dessert of grapefruit cake and banana cake.

I was so disappointed in the grapefruit cake, I really thought it would be tangy and something different but it was very sweet and I really didn't like it (neither did anyone else at the table) The banana cake received mixed reviews on our table but was more popular than the grapefruit.

Kids dessert was cookie, ice cream and 'hidden treasure' (gummy worm for those interested)

Hubby's review at the end of the meal was "I really enjoyed that, great food and nice place" so I'm glad we went. Both mum and my eldest enjoyed their meals too, I have to admit I was a bit underwhelmed by my food, maybe that's the vegetarian options in this restaurant but the setting was lovely.

Breakfast -

Goods to go - OKW

Harry's Hearty Breakfast Bowl - served with scrambled eggs, poblano peppers, O'Brien potatoes topped with a biscuit and gravy $7.49

We got two of these for mum and hubby and enjoyed them on our balcony. They said that the portions were generous and it tasted ok. They both said it filled a hole. I'm not sure either of them would order it again.!

They used two credits from the dining plan and swapped the drinks for cinnamon rolls although we somehow got 3 rather than 2!!! 😉

These were yummy. I love the icing and it made me feel like we were back home!!! We got coffee in our refillable mugs.

Drinks on the go at Animal Kingdom

Frozen lemonade and Key West Sunset beer

Lunch

Rainforest cafe

We had an adr for lunch at rainforest cafe. We were caught in a huge rain storm so arrived just in time! Although there were a number of groups waiting we were seated almost immediately.

We have all visited rainforest cafe a number of times in the past but we all felt that it seemed to have really lifted the quality of their offer.

The food was really tasty and we all enjoyed everything we had. Nobody however managed to empty a plate! The stand out items were the flatbreads both of which tasted amazing and the ribs which had plenty of meat on them and were better than the norm.

Interesting drinks (others were coke etc)

Brazilian freeze

Orlando brewing I4 IPA

Strawberry lemonade

Ahi poke tower - spicy soy and sesame raw ahi tuna, avocado, tomato, wonton chips, wasabi aioli $11.99

Parrilla Veggie Flatbread - grilled zucchini, yellow squash, red bell pepper, red onion, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, smoked paprika $11.99

Mushroom & Spinach Flatbread - Alfredo sauce, mozzarella cheese, diced tomatoes $11.99

Chicken Strips - golden fried chicken tenders served with your choice of Buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing or BBQ sauce and ranch dressing. $10.99

Entrees

Honey sriracha salmon - with sweet honey sriracha glaze, steamed rice, Asian green bean stir fry, cilantro $27.99

Anaconda pasta- quinoa spaghetti, garden vegetables, basil, shaved Parmesan, red pepper flakes, white-wine tomato sauce $19.99

Ribs steak and shrimp trio - coconut shrimp, mojo bone ribs, flat iron steak, coleslaw, safari fries $31.99

Fish-N-Chips - flaky white fish, golden fried, served English-style, with Safari fries, coleslaw and tartar sauce $20.99

My younger son had macaroni and cheese but I decided that most people would know what it looked like! I warned him that it would be the bright yellow kind and he said that would be fine, however he took one bite and said he didn't like it!

Dessert

Mango Sorbet - served with raspberry sauce, mango, mango puree, and a hazelnut-chocolate wafer $6.99

Chocolate Diablo Cake - dark chocolate cake layered with rich chocolate filling, served with raspberry sauce and creamy whipped topping $7.99

All in all a good meal and a pleasant surprise in the variety of options available.

Hi

Welcome to my (hopefully!) live food report. I've spent many an hour drooling over everyone else's reports and so I thought it was time for me to pay it forward! I hope you enjoy! I haven't ever written anything like this before so please forgive typos (it will be typed on my phone) and be kind, I'm learning how to use the app as I go along.

There are 5 of us traveling tomorrow!!!(yes I've left this quiet late in the day) Me, the hubby, our two sons (age 10 and 5) and my Mum. We are staying on site at OKW for 3 weeks with a brief trip to Universal for the hubby and oldest son. ( can't promise they will remember to take food photos but they will go with their orders!) I booked when the $100 gift card and free dining was available. I waited until I could reserve the room at OKW rather than join the wait list and as a result the $200 gift card deal had finished but it did mean I could book with a cashback site and received 350 for my trouble so I didn't feel like I had done too badly!!😉

It's been two years since we last visited and quite a lot of restaurants have arrived on the scene so we are hoping to visit at least some of them in addition to some of our favourites. I am vegetarian so this has a significant effect on our restaurant choices as some don't have options shown on their menus. I know I can request something but I'd rather just know that I can get something off the menu. Hubby however wants the complete opposite to me when it comes to restaurants and plans to eat as many interesting meats and steaks as he can! We have a long list of ADRs so hopefully it will make interesting reading!!!

All the fun starts at 5am tomorrow so I'll leave this for now and hopefully update at the airport.

Thanks for reading x

Saturday 12 August

First stop .... breakfast

Brunel bar and kitchen - Bristol airport

One ultimate breakfast

Hubby review was not terribly positive, sausage undercooked, black pudding and beans over cooked and the field mushroom should have been referred to as a small lawn mushroom as it was so small! Eggs were nice and runny though, so at least there were some positives! 😉

A kids breakfast

It was demolished in double quick time and seemed to be enjoyed!

And finally toast and jam for the rest of us!

What more can I say... it was toast, nice soft bread and it all disappeared.

Next stop.... Dublin!

Dublin airport

We had a very long 5 hour layover between flights and made the rookie mistake of going through US pre-clearance too early. We should have stopped and got some food before going through as the options are very limited once through.

For interest (and nothing to do with a food report!) it took us exactly an hour from landing to clearing the pre-clearance.

Anyway we bought some sandwiches from the little express deli/bar for lunch and shared them between us. Everyone had the same. Ploughmans sandwich with onion mayonnaise. It was really good, lots of flavour and a bit different. Better than a lot of prepackaged sandwiches 😊.

Aer lingus inflight food

First off we were served drinks and pretzels. The mini bags of pretzels were very popular with my 5 year old, I think he managed to pursuance 3 of us to give ours to him!

We paid to upgrade the inflight meal for the hubby and my mum. Hubby chose the steak option, we paid €22 for this and booked it online in advance. They didn't offer a vegetarian upgrade for me! The meal included bread, salad to start, steak with mash, mushrooms and broccoli, panna cotta for desert and a chocolate. He could also choose red or white wine. He enjoyed this and said it was miles better than the normal option. I asked if he would do the upgrade again he said yes it was worth it but he might choose a different option next time.

The upgrade meals were delivered before the rest of the meals and came on 'real' plates with 'real' cutlery.

We got the Chicken option for Mum as a little treat, this was €20. It was called Roast Chicken with a twist, it also included roasted vegetable salad to start, bread, roast Chicken breast on a tomato sauce with new potatoes and mange tout, a panna cotta for desert and a chocolate. It also came with a choice of red or white wine.

Mum really enjoyed this especially as it was really hot. (She hates lukewarm food!) she said it was a really welcome change to normal aeroplane food and she would order it again if she had the option. I'm really glad we treated her.

Everyone else had the main meal options of beef stew or chicken ravioli. Both the boys went for the Chicken pasta, the 10 year old enjoyed this but the 5 year old didn't. I don't think it was any better or any worse than standard plane food these days. It's just what you get!

About half way through the flight we were offered an ice-cream. This was really really good quality vanilla ice-cream, really lovely favour and a pretty generous portion.

The final food instalment of the flight was a hot chicken or vegetable lattice pastry.

We arrived at OKW by 9pm and I'm afraid we didn't do anything except collapse into bed! 23 hours after we started! 😴
