Where's the Mouse? Day 9 Las Vegas

Where’s the Mouse? – Day 9. The return to Vegas.

Written by Jools. Photographs by Bill.

Sunday September 3rd 2006.

Today was the day we would return to Las Vegas for the final week of our West Coast holiday. We were both up by 8 and again decided to have the wonderful breakfast buffet at the hotel. By 9.30 we were all packed up and ready to leave Anaheim for the four and a half hour journey to Vegas. Our journey began by taking us down a residential street. You do see odd things in the road in Anaheim!

We stopped off at my favourite place to buy some washing powder, Walgreens!

Then we headed for the Highway to Vegas. We had been on the road for about 45 minutes when we hit some very heavy traffic.

It was at a complete standstill and we hoped this was not the way the rest of the journey would be. I was pleased bill had burned some music from the laptop onto some blank CD’s as the radio reception in the desert is almost none existent. We were caught in the traffic jam for about 45 minutes and heaved a sigh of relief when things started to move again.

After a couple of hours Bill suggested we stop for a rest. There was a notice which said exit half a mile ahead. Oops Bill missed it and went sailing past. Never mind I said there will be another one in 70 miles or so. As it happened there was an Shopping Outlet about 2 miles further down the road – yes in the middle of the dessert so we stopped there and went into Burger King for a cold drink. After about 20 minutes we went back to the car and resumed the journey. About half an hour later we saw a Water Park, again in the dessert. I was begining to think I was hallucinating, but no it was definately a Water Park. Apparently miles away from civilization – very odd!

Later on we could see ahead a rainstorm with lots of forked lightening. We eventually passed through it and it was pretty much like the rain you get in Florida, where it just falls as if from a huge bucket.

Eventually we arrived at Marriott’s Grand Chateau, which is predominantly a timeshare resort. We exchanged our week at Marriott’s Horizons in Florida for the week at this resort in Vegas. We left the car with the valet who told us it was complimentary, which was great after the $17 per day we had to pay at the Hilton in Anaheim.
The unit is the last one on the hallway, a good way from the lifts so we were hoping we not hear too much racket from loud people when they came in each night. We were on the 16th floor and had a great view of the strip. There was a good sized lounge and bedroom, with a nice big bed and a huge bathroom.

We went for a look at the pool and pool bar area which was on the 38th floor. The pool was quite small, and there was also a hot tub.

The bar tender was very friendly and chatty and he mixed very strong drinks. I asked for a gin and tonic and expected a small glass like at home, but no it came in a pint glass and was very strong. More tonic was required. Bill had a Coors light.

We also looked in the gym, which was very well equiped and then wandered down to the lobby and front desk.

Later on we went to the Harley Davidson Cafe for a look around and something to eat. Bill had a philly cheesesteak sandwich and I had a chicken and vegetable wrap. We were more interested in the place than the food. It was a bit like the Hard Rock Cafe, except all the exhibits were motorbike related.

The music played in there was good too. Mostly 80’s stuff which we liked. I did raise an eyebrow when Adam and the Ants “Goody two shoes” was played though. I can’t imagine any hairy bikers listening to that. We liked it though. After having a look in the Harley shop we took a walk along the strip. We didn’t go far only to the MGM Grand hotel and Casino where we had walk around and looked at the lions who live there. Bill had a small flutter on the slot machines, but lost overall. The cocktail waitress asked us what we’d like to drink. Bill had a rum and coke and I just had coke. Most people were ordering strange coloured cocktails and I thought I’d sample of of those next time.

It was around 11 pm when we returned to our villa and we were in bed soon afterwards.

Dawn,
You'll just have to get used to it. Whats happening with the bikers in your home at the moment?
Just for a change from bikes I'm taking Jools to see the Shelby Cobra museum and car factory. I'm all heart.

Heres a couple of photos from the roof the Marriott Grand Chateau, 38th Floor.

And a couple of some strange views on our road from California to Las Vegas.
What sort of name is this?

The water park which is half way between LV and Anaheim.

and a roller coaster park which is only about 70 miles away.

and a couple of mountain ranges

The Marriott accomodation you are staying at looks lovely, is it on the Strip? I'm planning on going back to Vegas with loads of friends for my 35th birthday, so a stay there might be in order!
