panasonic dvd camcorder and usb driver problems

Hi - I hope someone can help, we have a panasonic vdr M50 dvd RAM camcorder, now... it did not come with a cd and therefore, \i currently have no way of getting the video off the blumin thing on to my pc.

I have found these drivers and have the main programs now installed, but I for the life of me can't install the usb drivers, these are the drivers that let the pc recognise the camcorder as a removable drive, \i have all the files, the PC see's the usb device when you switch it on, but I can't install the software.

I am on XP and I thought it should just deal with it cos it's a usb drive!

please help, it's driving me bonkers.

Chris

I have a Panasonic camcorder and I can tell you it won't work with the USB I know because I used my usb cable by mistake this afternoon. You have to use firewire and it should be fine. I don't know why it doesn't work with the usb but for some reason it doesn't. I know mine isn't the same model as yours but I am wondering if it is the same for most Panasonic's.

I am not sure why it doesn't recognise the usb as normally XP will automatically find it. With my panasonic I cannot transfer the video in Ulead studio 9 unless I use firewire but as yours doesn't have the port then I am not sure what to suggest.

One thing I would do is search the net to see if there is anything that you can download or if anyone else has had the same problem. I have done this many times when I can't get things to work and it's surprising sometimes how many people have the same problems and very often can direct you to the answer.

that's great cheers for your help.

I have found the drivers and many people have this problem, my main problem is I don't know how to install the drivers I downloaded, they are the right ones, but when I am going through the 'new hardware found' process, I can't get the pc o see the files, should they be put in a specific place?

If you've got the relevent driver file you should be able to select its location during the Install new Hardware process by telling XP the folder its in.

Yes is the answer they do have to go in a specific place, when you downloaded them did it give you any instructions? sometimes when you run and install they are set up to install into the correct place and you can just go ahead and your equipment, but I don't know about the ones you have downloaded.
