I swear Kirstenjet has. I remember seeing the photo of her stroking a penguin.

I did something very similar Muppet, nice of you to remember!

I did two tours, each lasting one hour. The polar tour and the rescue tour. You book them when you get there and the cost $8 each ($4 to annual pas members). They both take you round the 'back' of Sea World.

The polar tour takes you to see the Beluga whale holding pen (we saw seals in it though) and a baby section (we saw sea lions). You see where they prepare food etc, then all the filters and equipment. You walk to the polar bear holding room. After that a short bus ride to a room full of penguins where you get to stoke one!

The rescue tour takes you round all the rescue pens and you also get to see Sea Worlds operating theatre and where the do all the science type stuff like blood samples and water samples (but you only get to look through the windows as people are working.)

We saw fish, a huge sea turtle being transported, sea turtles in pens, 2 different lots of dolphins , three rescued manatees that were going back to the wild and one 3 month baby manatee that had something wrong with it so was going to be kept.

Both of them were excellent value for money, especially compared to the Adventure Express Tour! Only trouble is they each start at 12 so you have to do them on seperate days.

They sometimes do a shark one as well I think.

I remember I did the Polar Tour with DS in 2001... he adores everything to do with penguins so it was an absolute must-do!

The cost was about $8-$10 each and was well worth it, he got to stroke the penguin twice ( I diplomatically pretended to be a bit wary so he got my go and was he proud at being braver than his dad ! )

Since it was November and the parks were very quiet there were hardly any queues ( not even for Kraken ) so there's be little point at that time in paying $75 each to go front of queue even with lunch thrown in. I imagine it would be different in the peak periods though and could be worth while.

This is a great idea for a busier period.

I'm surprised they haven't done this sooner

my family and I did the adventure express tour last year, we found it great value for money. We had a very relaxing day, not having to plan our strategy for the day and seeing everything in a small group with a guide who filled us with loads of information. I would certainly do it again. I felt very important going to the front of queues!

I did the shark tour when I went back in Feb and that was really interesting too, as you get to walk along the surface of the tank that the plastic tunnel goes through. You also get to stroke a shark in the back area Admittedly he is a very little one (a black banded bamboo shark or something similar).

It also includes a trip to see the killer whales from the side in Shamu stadium, you can't go nearer than about 5 foot though.

Well worth the money! ($12 or so)
