Effects filters ?

Further on to my thread about my old flash gun I have also come across some effects filters that I used with my old film SLR.
They dont seem to work to well with my 350D.
Any ideas anyone ?

Regards... Ted

In what way don't they work?

Size? =)

Polarising filters can be odd with new autofocus systems, if thats one of the problems. They need to be circular polarisers not linear.

Thanks Andy.
For example I have some 'shape effect' filters, ie the shape of binoculars, key holes various shapes etc.
When I use them the shape is not clearly dined as it was with my film slr and is all blurred around the edges.
I have a prism and starburst filters that work fine.

Regards... Ted

I wonder if it's due to the different size of the imaging sensor (smaller than a 35mm film neg) and changes in focal lengths on DSLRs?

Did they come out sharp before?

One wonders how the focus would work with shapes right smack on the lens.

*scratches head*

Have you tried manually setting a wide aperture?

Hmmm, I havent tried the aperture yet.
Funny enough Andy, I was just searching through some old photos and found some where I had used the filters and they did indeed come out sharp.
