Help needed please. Canon Eos 400d

Can anyone please help me to make up my mind about which DSLR to choose. I have about £450 budgeted for the camera and am looking at the canon eos 400d. QUESTIONS:

1. Does anyone have one and are they as good as the shop assistants lead me to believe?
2. It is vital that the camera is not too complicated. I have a reasonable knowledge of cameras and photography but am no professional.
3. I have seen advertised an eos 400d and a rebel xti 400d. Is there a difference as the spec looks the same?

Thanks for your thoughts,

Carl

To be honest go for the 30D you will never regret the extra spent on it, tank like construction and as said the kit lens will do for starters and sigma do a very good range for canon.

I went for the 400d -mainly because I got it for free! It's great though as Rusty says the supplied lens isn't great. However, the actual body is fantatsic and i love it. I've invested and am investing in better lenses as it grows with me. i wasn't disappointed at all and it takes some stunning pictures!
